This essay aims to present new data related to the Forma Urbis severiana and to deepen and update some specific aspects of it. In the first part, after the point on the recent findings of specimens from the area of the Imperial Fora, there is a new one from the excavations of the Templum Pacis. The second part concerns the problem of identification Porticus Aemilia=Navalia, proposed in 2006 and still under discussion. Some important excavation data, dating back to the 80s of the twentieth century and never previously taken into consideration, seem to contrast with this identification. Finally, the essay examines and deepens, in the third part, the marked differences between the sur- viving planimetric representations of the Imperial Fora, in the slabs 15-16 and 29 and the available archaeological evidence.

This paper presents a new fragment of the Forma Urbis Marmorea found during the works of the Soprintendenza Speciale Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio di Roma at Casale Torlonia, on the Aventine Hill. The paper describes the features of the new fragment, offering a possible interpretation of the topography represented on it.

This present paper discusses two important archaeological sites on the Aventine Hill: the monumentalcomplex of Santa Sabina Church and the estate belonged to Torlonia Family. Both sites are reported on a 19th century watercolour map showing plans of military architecture, started but not completed. During the works many archaeological structures were destroyed. In the first site a recent excavation returned five pavements – three tesserae in mortar technique and two mosaics – dating back to the 1st century B.C. In thenearby area where the Privata Traiani and Decian Baths are witnessed, princess Giulia Torlonia Borghese had brought to light in 1952 two rooms with floor mosaics and wall frescoes in good condition. The pave- ments date back between the late 2nd and the beginning of 3rd century A.D. Instead, the cronology of the frescoes ranges from the beginning of 2nd century A.D. until Severian age.

F I N A L M E N T E U N B E L M U S E O ! Lo dico senza remore e senza pormi troppi dubbi. Quello che ho visto qualche giorno fa al Celio è un piccolo miracolo in una città che non fa altro che sfornare discutibili (quando non allucinanti) mostre di Archeologia. Nel silenzio dei media e, al tempo stesso, nella attonita reazione di professionisti e pubblico.
Mi ha sorpreso il silenzio che ha accompagnato questa apertura. Un silenzio, forse intenzionale, o forse dettato dal “non ce la faremo mai” che invece poi ha avuto buon esito. Sta di fatto che il silenzio, questa volta, ne ha amplificato il successo (da quel che vedo), se non altro quello sui social, dove è stato oggetto di tante e diverse curiosità, ecc.
