Just finished cloning a fission metroid today. Apparently this type of research has been deemed illegal and the galactic federation has classified me in the same category as Space Pirates.
Man, these things are so cute!
This is an idea of what perhaps a LEGO set of Metroid could look like if there was such a LEGO theme (I wish...).
This is of an enemy in Metroid called Sidehopper, that is also common in other Metroid games. The enironment is mainly inspired by the Brinstar area in Super Metroid.
For Samus Arans outfit I used the body wear that Battle Mech from Series 9 Minifigures uses, and colored it yellow in the computer.
Here is one step closer to the finished layered scene featuring gaming's hottest space bounty hunter chick protagonist and her ship. Including the ground layer and Samus, the count comes in at around 14,000+ beads. All that's left to finish off the piece is a printed backgorund of the grey sky, a mount and a frame.
Mechmonday = Metroidmonday :)
Sorry for being so lazy these days,
This model was resting on my shelf for a while now, until i managed to build the base for it this morning.
I guess we are all getting older :)
Have a great week doods!
Custom bead sprite of Samus Aran from Super Smash Bros. I used official artwork from the game for reference but I drew every pixel myself, by hand.
The largest solid bead sprite I have done to date. This contains well over 10,000 beads and literally took days of careful ironing. Samus was ironed seperately. I have also made a foreground layer and much like my Ninja Gaiden 3D piece, this one will have a background and frame to add depth.
My first attempt at one of those montage type images. I think this took me around 4 weeks, on and off.
I went shopping today and ended up with Super Metroid, Rockman 7, and X complete in box. Too bad my SFC smells like stale cigarettes. :<

The Super Nintendo cartridge is one of the most complex cart designs around. The ridges and bevels of the NES cartridge weren’t enough for Nintendo, so they added screws, curves, divots, notches, and what appears to be aluminum siding. The label has a huge amount of space devoted to branding, but still manages to have room for game artwork. SNES carts aren’t quite as freaking huge as NES carts, but they’re still pretty big. Also, just like NES carts, they’re mostly empty space inside. Early Super Nintendo cartridges had a solid section across the base, which allowed a locking mechanism to fit into a hole on the front of the cartridge, but as time went on the carts evolved a way to free themselves from this capitivity, leading to the gapped cart shown above. In a rare gesture of defeat, later SNES consoles removed the locking arm entirely, thereby allowing even the early cartridges to escape.
A huge shame that toy makers dont make accessories for the figure, pretty boring without anything, especially if it goes up in price but is a basic figure or a nicer quality like Samus here. or they get lazy & careless with a very slightly changed piece like Zero from megaman having a pointier sword. Lame!!!!
Why should we buy another one just to get a laser piece? So they can make more money? -_-
well i improvised. More to come
A demonstration of the difference between the SNES's internal ratio of 8:7 and the 4:3 image the game stretches to on a TV. In 8:7, Super Metroid's morph ball is a perfect circle (as it logically should be) while in 4:3 it's an oval.
Fusion and Zero Mission render the ball as a perfect circle, making it clear that the 4:3 proportions of the SNES and Wii/Wii U Virtual Console are incorrect.
You know what's difficult? ...trying to find a way in which to start talking about this amazing game. There is just so much going for Super Metroid that it deserves to be somewhere in everyones game collection.
I never played this when this game originally dropped in 1994, so I can only retroactively imagine how much of a punch this game would've packed on the gamers older than myself who played this Metroid game at it's prime (see what I did there?).
Even today this game holds up extremely well, and along with Zelda: A Link to the Past this is one of the best value for money adventures you'll have on the Super Nintendo, yet given the huge differences in a Zelda game to a Metroid game (although funnily enough the unique traits we've come to expect of Zelda's and Metroids only really kicked into high gear with there SNES installments).
Super Metroid is a package unlike any other though, there are many games you'll play on the SNES that will make you think "this is kind of like Zelda", but I've never really had that with Super Metroid, and I think perhaps thats what makes this game stand that little bit taller still to this day.
It's unbelievable how great the design is in this game. The huge scale of the map which you slowly uncover as you obtain new powerups and abilities, all set in arguably the eeriest game world created during the 16-bit era.
There is no doubt that Super Metroid is a masterpiece, even if you aren't too fond of the kind of game it is you have to agree it's value in the history of video games. It's also the reason that over 15 years later, people still eagerly crave to see more 2D Metroid games come out Nintendo (myself included).
The last metroid in in captivity… the galaxy is at peace.
