The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down

Of the big lake they called 'gitche gumee'

The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead

When the skies of November turn gloomy.

I have been fascinated by the tales of Lake Superior for years since I first heard the Gordon Lightfoot song about the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. So we visited the pictured rocks and took a boat trip on the lake. I do have to add I would NEVER take a boat trip on Lake Superior in November.

Thank you for your visit I hope you enjoyed it. :-)

Here is the sequel to my prior picture Frozen in time. You can see the old boat in the left of the frame.

There is an old pier that goes out into the lake where I could get this vantage point.

Here comes the wind and rain! I made this image at Grand Marais, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. One of the world's most beautiful wild beaches. It was a nasty, windy, rainy, snowy, wave pounding day---but great for photography!

The small town of Superior, AZ is about 60 miles east of Phoenix. It was founded early in the last century as a result of huge nearby mining operations. Mining has reduced and the town has struggled as a result. These church buildings have changed hands a number of times.

My final posting from our quick trip "Up North" last weekend.

It was a moody mix of sunshine, wind and clouds most of the day, but enjoyed the challenge of it!

Never a dull moment on the big lake!

As luck would have it ... while setting up and working the location for compositions, a canoe paddler crossed in front of us along the calm Lake Superior shore.

What a peaceful time, sitting by the shore on a rock waiting for the sun to come up.

I found a new sunrise location on Lake Superior, but it took some unexpected effort. It is about a .75 mile trail with a decent amount of steps, but nothing that difficult. As I was hiking something a bit unexpected happened, my legs started to cramp up, but not a little bit, but a lot. They were in so much pain that I eventually had to stop walking altogether until the pain subsided enough to move on. All that being said, I am very thankful that I did not get hurt and that God was gracious to me by allowing me to complete the hike and witness a very beautiful sunrise! I am still learning my limits as a disabled photographer, but I am so thankful for the grace of God in my life and His strength that is perfected in my weakness!
