I was looking at all the old photos of Ray yesterday The one through the cat flap when he first turned up in our garden as a stray. He lived in the garden for quite a while before he ventured into our home. He was a big old bruiser of a cat when we took him on, terrifying Kaiser as you can see from the second from the left top photo. Then he calmed down and became our sunshine boy. He was about 3 years old when he joined our family and he remained with us for 14 years: so he was 17 years old (maybe a little older according to our vet) when we said goodbye on Friday. We will truly miss the sunshine boy but we know he is pain free now and sleeping peacefully across the Rainbow Bridge
My younger son is the spunky, smiley boy. I like this one because of his smile and the earlier because of the smirk. Not sure which I like better. :-D

The King Vulture, Sarcoramphus papa, is a large bird found in Central and South America. It is a member of the New World vulture family Cathartidae. This vulture lives predominantly in tropical lowland forests stretching from southern Mexico to northern Argentina, though some believe that William Bartram's Painted Vulture of Florida may be of this species. It is the only surviving member of the genus Sarcoramphus, though fossil members are known.
It is large and predominantly white, with gray to black ruff, flight, and tail feathers. Its head and neck are bald, with the skin color varying, including yellow, orange, blue, purple, and red. The King Vulture has a very noticeable yellow fleshy caruncle on its beak. This vulture is a scavenger and it often makes the initial cut into a fresh carcass. It also displaces smaller New World vulture species from a carcass. King Vultures have been known to live for up to 30 years in captivity.
King Vultures were popular figures in the Mayan codices as well as in local folklore and medicine. Though currently listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, they are decreasing in number, due primarily to habitat loss.
A shame I threw out most of my tapes a few months ago. I suppose the ones I didn't must be significant. Among the survivors: A documentary on Corinne Day taped over a recording of Dog Day Afternoon (1975); A documentary on Lartigue taped over recordings of Suddenly Last Summer (1959) and Curb Your Enthusiasm; an Electric Pictures boxed edition of Fellini's La Dolce Vita (1960); A recording off the TV of The Sunshine Boys (1975); A recording of The Producers (1968) along with an Arena documentary on the generation of comedy writers associate with the Sid Caesar Show; a recording of Jim Jarmusch's Night on Earth (1992); A recording of The Spanish Prisoner (1998) taped over Humphrey Jennings's Fires Were Started (1943), and an episode of Six Feet Under; Recordings on the same tape of the `Life Lessons' segment of New York Stories (1989) and Mean Streets (1973). The last three tapes I found in the garage: The Ring within the Rings (1996), box 29 of the Marshall Cavendish Boxers series, subtitled `Three Great Title Fights Featuring One of Italy's Favourite Sons - NINO BENVENUTI v Emile Griffith (17 April 1967), NINO BENVENUTI v Luis Rodríguez (22 November 1969), NINO BENVENUTI v Tom Bethea (23 May 1970); From the same series, `Solid Gold: Three Great Fights Featuring Four Former Olympic Champs - Floyd Paterson v Pete Rademacher (22 August 1957), Joe Frazier v Jimmy Ellis (16 February 1970), George Foreman v Ron Lyle (24 January 1976).
The plaque can be found next to the steps near the wharf and reads:
In loving memory of Rhys William Carswell-Dawson
Our Sunshine Boy
29.8.84 - 30.10.01
Into this world came a son - our "sunshine boy"
Whose charismatic being all embraced.
Although he's gone, his vibrant sense of fun,
His love and laughter will not be replaced.
As we stand in this place, steeped in the past,
And remember his ashes ebbing away with the tide,
We love him now as much as we did then....
His presence ever with us will abide.
A life that touches others goes on forever.
An occassional glimpse of Tiberius' face is a sure cure against the Monday blues.
I have one more meeting tonight and then my evenings are free. Whew.
Notice his belly. When he is stretched out - he has a heart on his belly. This is wonderful because he does like his belly scratched which is very unusual for a cat. He also likes water, playing fetch and anything this is not techinically considered a toy - Q Tips for instance.
