A former shop of porcelain and table crystal in the ‘Grasmarkt’ old Brussels city centre, has been taken over. Behind the shop windows we can now see fluffy animals and boxes for children. Today, it would be no problem to enter this shop in your shorts and sneakers; different times bring different habits and needs.

On top of the water there is a tank "CLICK IT" and it submerges you into the polluted depths of a new place. OPENS JULY 21st- August 6th. maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Thor/121/84/7

This year the tapestry has been cancelled due to Covid-19. In 2016 it was nearly cancelled because of the terrorist attacks in Brussels that happened in March. But it was not cancelled after all. The theme of the design in 2016 was: Japan. Let us hope that great cultural events are no longer cancelled from now on.

Taken at the Sunshine Carnival in my hometown. It's always a great atmosphere and photographic opportunity to join the parade and soak up the sun.

Hopefully it will be back next year, as this year's has been cancelled due to Covid.

After 4 years of absence, finally we have our flower carpet again on our Grand Place in Brussels. It is made of Begonias and Dahlias (the latter which are more heat-resistant) and of coloured wood chips. This year’s theme is about the very first carpet from 1971 and today’s display is a memorial interpretation of this very first carpet. After several forced cancelations, I think this historical reflection theme is well-chosen, because all of our ‘established’ values and qualities should sometimes be thought over in that way, to avoid the mistake that we can take all these things for granted. It is not self-evident that we have a tapestry of flowers on our Grand Place every other year and now for 50 years and for the twenty-second time. Indeed, pandemics, heat waves and wars can also interfere with these decades-old treasures that became traditions and tourist attractions. We should not forget that the flowers come from somewhere and so are the skilful and motivated volunteers that construct the carpet for no pay.

I am also grateful for the patron who let me enter into his café to the highest floor to make my traditional overview photo; un grand merci pour vous! Elements of this year’s tapestry are (like in 1971) Saint George and the Dragon (at both ends) and the Belgian Lion. This is the last day of the exhibit and if all is well another tapestry will be here by mid-August in 2024.

This photo was taken during the annual kite festival on the beach in front of Hotel De Blanke Top in Cadzand, where we spend a week each year with the family. The beach was lively with colors and movement, but I was drawn to this quieter moment in the sky. A line of small kites floated in the breeze, each spelling out "Vlieg bij Brut sur Mer" — a playful sky-high advertisement for the beach bistro just steps from the hotel. Above, two larger kites soared freely across the deep blue sky.

What stood out to me was how simple the scene was — just lines, color, and space, all working nicely together. Despite being a promotion, it resembled a drawing stretched across the sky.

Sometimes, simplicity is enough — a brief, beautiful visual moment, quietly impactful.

Since humans have invented motor cars, it drastically changes the efficiency of transportation. This machine is however more than just a means of transportation.

Many falls in love with this piece of machine. They kept the machine like a pet and there is a big emotional attachment to it too.

Inspired when I saw a caption on my Instagram feed wondering why people read (alas can't remember who!). I will read just about anything nonfiction, I live and breathe in stories and between words and the sighs of stanzas -- why not read?

Books featured all have left a deep impression on me at the point of reading, though I'm not fond of some now at this stage of my life. ;D From bottom to top:

Harry Potter; Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Nineteen Minutes (I admit I picked this book because I needed another white cover to balance the photo)

Inheritance Cycle; Inheritance (and then I needed a black cover)

Kafka on the Shore

The Kingkiller Chronicles; The Name of the Wind

The young girl in the Jazz band was singing the cover version of Cyndi Lauper's "Time after time". She has a very deep and low voice which is good for the performance of this song.

She is so young and I am guessing she was not born when this song was released and became very popular in 1983! :o)

Having a good time on both sides of the Tonawanda Creek. North Tonawanda, New York.

I think my Flickr friends know that photographers are my favorite subject too. :o)

This is also from the International Buskers Festival last year.

Wish you a great weekend!

The following is the original story posted.

My friend is a very experienced amateur or semi-professional photographer. He had won many awards and held solo exhibitions of his works. He uses high end gear only such as full frame and medium format cameras.

I have asked him about his opinion on street photography. He replied street photography is "too easy" and something without challenge for him. He prefers only landscape and wildlife photography.

To him, street photography is easy because you need to find interesting subjects, interesting settings and a good match of these two things. Then you can get a good shot. Street photographers usually don't care much about image quality or quality of their gear. As a matter of fact,, many great works of street photography are done by small or compact cameras. Leica is only a myth and it cannot be compared to his grand medium format cameras.

On the other hand, landscape or wildlife photography requires all the techniques PLUS you need to travel the world in order to find your grand scenes and great subjects. It is much more challenging. You need lots of money and time for this. You cannot achieve a good shot easily just in your local neighbourhood.

It is like the difference between singing a simple folk song and singing the famous aria by the Queen of Night in Mozart's Magic Flute. What kind of singer you want to be?

Do you want to be a street photographer?

This is a portrait of a street photographer I took in Vancouver International Buskers Festival this year.

Wish you a great weekend!

Tai Chi (太極) is the harmony of the two opposite forces ying and yang or shall we say brightness and darkness. This is like what we try to achieve in our photography!

This is Tai Chi demonstrated in Chinatown Festival.

A spectacular aerial view of the annual Firework Champions competition at Stanford Hall in Leicestershire. Three professional display teams battled it out with synchronised pyrotechnic displays before the breathtaking finale lit up the night sky. From this elevated perspective, the vibrant explosions, glowing smoke and thousands of spectators combine to capture the scale and atmosphere of one of the UK’s premier fireworks events.

I watched the dancing performance at Chinatown Festival. The dancers are great. Their costumes are beautiful. This is Peruvian dance. The dancing and music are full of joy, passion and up lifting spirit.

My hands and eyes are slow and poorly coordinated. I tried to shoot a few frames and never get it right. The faces are covered by their flying dress or background not right. Finally in this one, I have both dancers' faces in the frame at least.

My personal conclusion is that watching dance is better than shooting dance. At least for me. :o)

Happy Tuesday!

What a better way to celebrate than with a firework?! My first time shooting one with a 'real' camera. It was fun shooting at such a slow speed.

Anyway, I'm grateful I just reached this amount of views! I wanna thank you all for looking at, liking and commenting my photos and also for following me :)

I really want to upgrade my photos and will do my best to do so.

Someone told him the rumours and the man was wondering if it was true by checking it out. “Does Roberto Baggio and Monica Bellucci really join our Italian Day event?”

Everyone loves great soccer player and beautiful movie star.

I joined the crowd on Italian Day at Commercial Drive the past Sunday. Joe’s Café is one of the landmarks on Commercial Drive.

Happy Wednesday!
