I associate Goldenrod with the brilliant colour it has to attract pollinators, and with the year round contribution it makes to living creatures in the ecosystem. I used to think it was a source of seasonal allergies, but in fact its pollen is not wind borne - only bees, butterflies and birds can move it around.

I liked the clean look I got at the Honey Bee’s ‘mouth parts’, and the front legs that have dedicated bristles for cleaning the proboscis. The prominent mandibles, used for chewing and eating things, are displaced by the mandible but visible at its base, on either side of the proboscis. The front of the face is a bit dusty, but the compound eyes are unobstructed.

After what feels like days and days of overcast skies, I thought some bright summery colours and activity might be a tonic.

Main Street was blocked. The band came. And a street party ensued!

In this 65 second time exposure taken during the blue hour before sunrise, the stars are still visible and the clouds appear to be racing by as though orbiting the mountain. A lenticular cloud is covering the top of the mountian and in fact it did appear to be swirling around and around. In a series of pictures leading up to sunrise, the clouds coalesce around the top of Mount Rainer like a big sombrero.

The actual scene here at 5:24 AM was darker than you see in this photo, but with the time exposure the camera sensor picks up much more light than our eyes see in an instant. To the right of the picture you can see the pathway that leads to Frozen Lake.

I love the humorous intricate puzzles of Springbok….but may have met my match with this one. So much is going on here, the details are amazing! It has 1,000 pieces after all. Thank heaven I can blow up the photographed image to view the details without my glasses.

And, listening to the weather reports, the world is CRAZY everywhere!!! Take it easy out there…..this too shall pass.........

The moon added the finishing touch to this breathtaking view of the Paznaun Valley from my room at the Hotel Post in Ischgl, Tyrol. The area is a true alpine paradise, with majestic peaks and idyllic valleys. In the summer, this region becomes a haven for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts amidst the stunning landscapes – Ischgl, Tyrol, Austria

Now the cells of the honeycomb are full of honey. The bees seal them with wax, as it can be seen at the upper part of the image. The honey is the product of tough work, numberless hours of flight and most importantly the result of cooperation between the members of a complex community.

Many thanks to my friend Lefteris, who among other talents is also a skillful beekeeper, for the hospitality to his farm and the help with the hives. Fortunately we haven't had any accident ( I mean bee attack) during the photoshoot.
