La belle Doumaï. Depuis le mois de mai, elle est en compagnie de Taru, un mâle de 12 ans venu du zoo du Pal. Après des débuts tendus, ils prennent leurs marques dans leur vaste enclos.
TIGRE DE SUMATRA (Panthera tigris sumatrae) : Les tigres de Sumatra se distinguent notamment par de longs poils autour des joues et du cou qui leur font comme une crinière. C’est l’une des plus petites sous-espèces de tigres au monde, mais aussi l’une des plus menacées avec une population sauvage comptant moins de 400 individus. Le tigre de Sumatra fait l’objet d’un programme d’élevage européen depuis 1990.

Next I will share with you a little photo diary of my travel adventure in 1983. I went on this journey together with a friend and we had nothing as our backpacks and a little guide book, i had my analogue Nikon FE and three Nikkor lenses and some 35mm slide film rolls.
I took this photo in 1983 through the window of the aircraft before landing in Medan, Sumatra (Indonesia).
I scanned my slide material with a 35mm film scanner Nikon Coolscan LS 40 ED

Der Naturzoo Rheine hat einen tollen Zuchterfolg gelandet: Am 22. Januar 2019 wurden drei Sumatratiger-Babies geboren.
The Grey Glassy Tiger or Gray Glassy Tiger, too Wood Nymph (Ideopsis juventa) is a species of nymphalid butterfly in the Danainae subfamily. The butterfly is widespread throughout South East Asia.
The Grey Glassy Tiger looks similar to the Rice Paper Butterfly (Idea leuconoe), having translucent white wings that are edged and veined with black. However, compared to the Rice Paper (wingspan 95 to 115 cm) , the Grey Glassy Tiger (wingspan 65 to 85 cm) is considerably smaller and has more black or dark gray on its wings.
The Grey Glassy Tiger belongs to the family Danaidae and is thus a relative of the famous Monarch (Danaus plexippus) and the Plain Tiger or African Monarch (Danaus chrysippus).
This picture was taken in the tropical butterfly house of the botanical garden of the Utrecht University in the Netherlands.
De bosnimf of wood nymph (Ideopsis juventa) is een vlinder uit de familie Nymphalidae, onderfamilie Danainae, de monarchvlinders.
De vlinder heeft een groot verspreidingsgebied in zuidoost Azië.
De bosnimf lijkt sterk op de grotere papiervlinder (Idea leuconoe) uit hetzelfde leefgebied in zuidoost Azië. Beide soorten hebben licht transparante witte vleugels met zwarte tekening. De bosnimf heeft wel meer zwart, vooral aan de buitenkant van de vleugels.
De bosnimf heeft een vleugelspanwijdte van 65 Ã 85 cm, de papiervlinder heeft een spanwijdte van 95 Ã 115 cm.
Binnen de vlinderfamilie Nymphalidae hoort de bosnimf tot de onderfamilie Danainae, de monarchvlinders. De vlinder lijkt daardoor ook sterk op de bekende oranje Amerikaanse monarchvlinder (Danaus plexippus) en de kleine monarchvlinder (Danaus chrysippus) uit Afrika.
