Feliz ano novo para todos!
Esse ano resolvi começar com essa foto que foi tirada ano passado em dezembro. Os passarinhos empre fazem ninhos aqui em casa e raramente alguém percebe eles. Talvez isso seja bom, pois alguns seres humanos não sebem lidar com a natureza sem destruí-la. Mesmo assim, esse ano trago essa foto para que nós possamos nos lembrar das pequenas coisas do mundo, boas e ruins, que possamos fazer pequenas coisas, simples e que passam muitas vezes despercebidas, tornarem-se grandes. E trago também pois nela vejo morte e vida lado a lado e acho que temos que compreender isso também, que a morte está logo ali mas que depende de nós, pois é como já dizem por ai: todo mundo um dia morre, mas você pode escolher como!
E também peço que esse ano todos nós tentemos ao menos ajudar a natureza, pois ao destruí-la estamos apenas destruindo a nós mesmos lentamente.
É isso.
Espero que todos tenham um magnifico ano e que os seus melhos sonhos se realizem. Paz e sucesso á todos!

Happy New Year to all!
This year I decided to start with this photo that was taken last year in December. The birds always nest here and rarely someone perceives them. Maybe this is good, because some humans can not cope with nature without destroying it. Still, this year I bring you this picture so that we can remember the little things in the world, good and bad. Hope we can do small things that are simple and often unnoticed, to become great. And also because I bring it where I see death and life side by side because I think that we have to understand that too, that death is right there but it depends on us, because as is said out there: the whole world will one day die, but you can choose how!
And also I think this year we all at least try to help nature, because when we destroy it we are only destroying ourselves slowly.
That's it. Hope you all have a wonderful year and that your best dreams come true. Peace and success to all!

I saw many of these floating nests during my walk in the Nymphenburg Palace Park. This one was built in a particularly quiet spot of the park and it got me thinking that those birds have a firm grip on the golden real estate concept of "location, location, location" :)
Vi muitos deste ninhos flutuantes durante o meu passeio no Parque do Palácio Nymphemburg. Este foi construído num local particularmente pacífico do parque, o que me faz pensar que estas aves conhecem bem o conceito que é a chave do sucesso no ramo do imobiliário: "localização, localização, localização" :)

Europe, Portugal, Porto, Mercado Bom Sucesso (uncut)
Back to the Porto series and to 'early' Portuguese modernism.
The Mercado Bom Sucesso (1952) was designed ARS Architects ARS arquitectos, formed in 1930 by António Fortunato de Matos Cabral, Mário Candido de Morais Soares and Fernando da Cunha Leão. The bureau also designed the Mercado municipal of Matosinhos. It’s a curved reinforced concrete building and due to the flow of space and the way the light can access the building from two sides it’s a modernist masterpiece, a real gem.
In a post some 3 months ago about the Mercado do Bolhão , an other famous Porto market, I wrote that the gentrification is probably removed from the municipal agenda and that the building will be renovated without forcing the current traders to leave.
Alas the Mercodo Bom Sucesso wasn't so lucky. Although it wasn’t structurally dilapidated, it was still targeted for transformation because of the commercial development of the quarter and the ongoing process of privatization in the city. In 2011 the City Council of Porto asked for bids and ‘Urban Market’ owned for 75% by Construtora Mota-Engil, one of the largest Portuguese construction companies, was chosen. The plan consisted of the realisation of up-market luxury shops, 44 luxury sales stalls and two new ‘modules’ at both ends of the building, one housing a 4 star hotel with 85 rooms (you can see this one in the shot), and the others the headquarters and exposition spaces of Manuel Antonio da Mota Foundation.
‘Urban Market’ allowed only 44 of the 144 stall holders to trade in the renovated market. At rates five times higher then they were accustomed to and the market would only open at 9 o’clock , far too late for the retail and wholesale. This was unacceptable and an organization was created to fight the Urban Market plan: the Movimento Bom Sucesso Vivo. The other reason the Movimento was created was the violation of the the beautiful spatial flow of the interior of the modernist building by the construction of two ungainly new sub structures inside the building (by FA Arquitetos). Eventually there was a law suit – and the stall holders were evacuated from the building in June 3 2013 and were paid only a small compensation.

On 6 July 1808, a group of fishermen from Olhão boarded the Caique Bom Sucesso, a fishing boat approximately 20 metres in length and 5 metres wide and with 2 sails. They crossed the Atlantic Ocean to Brazil to inform King João IV, who was in refuge there at the time, that the population of Olhão had managed to drive out the French invaders.
As a reward for such a brave feat, the king granted Olhão the charter of “Villa da Restauração” or “Town of the Restoration”, making it administratively independent from Faro.
Com vontade de um flocadim peguei qualquer esmalte na caixa e qualquer flocado e para minha surpresa consegui fazer essa combinação incrível! gente ao vivo está um absurdo! e faz um sucesso danado na rua, engraçado, o que para a esmaltólatra já é velho para o comum dos mortais é novidade hahaha
Pena que amassou o mindinho mas a vida anda tão corrida que nem pra consertar direito eu tenho parado... bom, ao vivo ninguém percebeu porque o brilho não deixa hehehe

ARS arquitectos was formed in Porto in 1930 by António Fortunato de Matos Cabral, Mário Candido de Morais Soares and Fernando da Cunha Leão and created its last project in the sixties. Some years ago a new bureau started with the same name. It’s based in Faro.
