This is the most fiery sunset I've seen from my front porch since I have lived on this street in suburbia.

York is a cathedral city in North Yorkshire, England, with Roman origins, sited at the confluence of the rivers Ouse and Foss. It is the historic county town of Yorkshire. The city has many historic buildings and other structures, such as a minster, castle, and city walls. It is the largest settlement and the administrative centre of the wider City of York district.
The city was founded under the name of Eboracum in 71 AD. It then became the capital of the Roman province of Britannia Inferior, and later of the kingdoms of Deira, Northumbria, and Scandinavian York. In the Middle Ages, it became the northern England ecclesiastical province's centre, and grew as a wool-trading centre. In the 19th century, it became a major railway network hub and confectionery manufacturing centre. During the Second World War, part of the Baedeker Blitz bombed the city; it was less affected by the war than other northern cities, with several historic buildings being gutted and restored up to the 1960s.

A combination of 2 pano's i shot on Sunday of my youngest daughter's home. And it is a bit of disturbing suburbia - there's a drug house across the road from them >:-(
I had driven by this spot in Western Pennsylvania many times over the past 4 years. It never failed to grab some part of my attention, and I always thought of it as an interesting and special scene. I promised myself time and again that I would stop to capture an image some day. After several years and an hours-long thunder storm, I finally did it. [Flickr Explore, No. 85, January 10, 2023]

Taken from the top floor of a friends house in January 2010. An almost abstract view.
Taken on a train. It's fascinating seeing the backs of houses and the gardens and how different each one is. I wanted to get a feeling of movement and the weeds and bushes by the track really helped.
Given a colour modification & slight blur, the loft conversion continues to be a very popular way of extending the living space in houses.

We move forward 39 years and Cart Lane is now residential with housing, many folk no longer remember or even know how it once was. I had waited for snow to take a second photo in more recent times.

Monochrome is the best way to capture the dramatic contrasts in light and shade. The lighting here is all natural as the setting sun shines on this housing estate. In the background lie the mountains that are engulfed in stormy darkness. Between the mountains and these houses flows the Tamar River.

When I turned the camera away from the setting sun things became a lot more dramatic. This small section of suburbia was awash in sunlight, but all around the shadows dominated as the dark clouds rolled over Launceston in the background.
A little earlier in the afternoon of those sunset shots I showed you yesterday, the weather was changing fast. Plenty of sun was breaking through the clouds, but storms were rolling in. These three monochromes today show a progression of scenes as the dark clouds arrived.
In this new suburban estate overlooking the Tamar River, I am shooting into the direction of the setting sun. Already the shadows were lengthening. That island in the river is part of the Tamar Wetlands which I'll take you to tomorrow.
