According to the National Park Service, these colorful cliffs are composed of dark red Moenkopi siltstone and mudstone. The red color is a result of oxidized iron in the rock in the dry conditions of this desert.
This is the area just across from the National Park visitor center. I loved the bright green Spring leaves on the trees along Sulphur Creek as they contrasted against the dark red rock.

I'm sorry folks.. but I'm having too many problems with Flickr at the moment. I can't seem to see all your posts and my photos aren't being shared either. Not to mention when I try to comment nothing gets sent.
So I've decided to take a week off! I have too much to do in the garden anyway, so the time off will be greatly appreciated!
BUT.. hopefully next monday when I get back, all the Flickr issues I'm having, will be rectified and corrected. Appologies for missing everyone's new posts.. But at this moment I'm not receiving most of them or able to comment and award!!

The subalpine forest at Emerald Lake tapers to a few dense stands, revealing Flattop Mountain and Hallett Peak ahead.
At this elevation, the winds and heavy snowfall make survivability for most plant and animal life challenging.
As seen here, even in June the temperatures remain cold enough to keep ice floating on about 1/6th of the lake.
