How's this, then? Likely to quite possibly be the rarest car I ever find, so rare in fact that searching up its model name yields no results besides old photos of this very car. This previously was hidden under a car cover, and, can you believe it, had done a mere 12,000 or so miles at its last MOT in 2008.
Whilst looking this car up, I found some photos of it, some from 2019, and some from when the car was laid up in 2009.
This photo kindly taken by my daughter, but quite by chance I saw it elsewhere the same day and I am happy to confirm that it has the early-type grille.
Relatively low mileage, as expected for it to be in this condition - 55k at its last MoT.
A pleasant surprise to see this very tidy example. Looks to have been off the road from 2014 to its latest MoT in 2023, [erhaps undergoing restoration?
If it's been on that plate since new I wonder if it was by Riddelsdell Bros in Boxford, Suffolk?
I used to see this Subaru 1800 Estate knocking around in the early 90's and never really thought too much of it but photographed it when it was laid up for spares a few years ago - they were reasonably popular in the rural areas, the pick ups in particular were common. Of course rust, rather than mechanical issues relegated these cars to the scrapyard.
Subaru were quite late importing cars to the UK, but they sold their cars through a unique and successful avenue - the first models were launched at farmers markets and shows - capitalising on the ranges full line up of 4WD cars - as the farmers discovered it was the first serious attempt to sell everyday cars with all wheel drive. Sales remained strong well into the 90's, by which time the Imprenza started making a name for itself - continuing the success albeit with a different demographic.

Subaru WRX
One of my best experiments. Hope you like it.
I really wanted to add some frames, some fancy texts, patterns and colours. But dont know why at the end, I just kept it simple and original :S
Logos, Nov. 4th
I've always liked the Subaru badge: no words or initials, only the stars of the Pleiades, which is Subaru in Japanese. A bit of rainy weather here.
Luminar 3.
This is our new car (now a year old) "The Grey Whale." But I actually owned a Subaru back in the mid-Seventies when they were still "Inexpensive and built to stay that way." They've come a long way. And got a lot more expensive!
Greg Lilly's Subaru STi, Houston, TX, 2010
This was one of the rolling shots that actually looked good from the photo shoot. This was our 3rd time shooting Greg's car and we made sure to get everything this time. The shoot started at 6:30am and lasted til about 10am. It wasn't too hot nor was it too cold, so conditions were perfect. Since Greg's car is black, we decided to shoot the car early Sunday morning. That was a good idea because the lighting was soft and warm.
Also, I should update my flickr more. I'm thinking daily which will be tough since I barely shoot for myself anymore =/
