photo by Bill Mathews... project Restoration took place the first week of Christmas vacation. 20-25 students stayed on campus to help build houses and do outreach in the Marion community. It was cold. It was muddy. It was a life-changing experience for many!

In the 1930s sunbathing was confined to Hanes Field where one could be assured of privacy. Women were expected to use discretion when sunbathing, and were required to wear a long coat over their bathing suit or gym clothes when crossing through campus. The "beach" as it was called was off limits to males.

The Oberlin Review is the newspaper of record for Oberlin College and the city of Oberlin, Ohio. Established in 1874, it has published continuously for 140 years, making it one of the oldest college newspapers in the United States. The printed edition of the Review is published every Friday during the fall and spring semesters, except during holidays and examination periods, with a circulation of 2,000 issues. The web edition of the Review is published online continuously.

Dancing was prohibited at Luther College until 1962. A dance was held the fall that E.D. Farwell became president and was called the "First Dance". This photo is from a later dance.

The J. Edgar and Louise S. Monroe Library is 150,000-square-feet and offers a variety of seating for more than 700 students, providing abundant wired and wireless access to the Internet. The library offers three computer labs, two multimedia classrooms, four seminar rooms, 15 group study rooms, and an art gallery. The library houses a multimedia production classroom featuring computer workstations loaded with video, audio, imaging, and music production software. The library can accommodate a collection of up to 500,000 volumes and features a reading room for the use of its valuable archival and special collections.
