The Art Academy of Cincinnati opened its doors to its first tenants on Saturday, August 19, 2006. Staff members helped students and parents move into the deluxe suites at 5 West 12th Street, located one block from the campus at 1212 Jackson Street in Over-the-Rhine.
The units are brand-new, contemporary suites with a private washer and dryer in each unit. Each kitchen is equipped with a full-size dishwasher, frost-free fridge, full-size range and microwave and stainless steel sinks. All suites are above street level.
Residents enjoy the security of a building that is accessible to authorized persons only and have full run of an L-shaped alley that they may use for gatherings, gardening, cooking out or just shooting the breeze with suite-mates.
The warm tones of exposed brick, historic rafters, fireplace facades, by-gone mantels and original black iron fire escapes offer an aesthetic living experience for students engaged in history, art and their place within it all. Contemporary art in the lobby is right at home amid the historical treasures that define the character of the place.
Central AC and Heat, ceiling fans, comprehensive utilities, high-speed internet access, Cable TV wiring, private postal boxes and other amenities make the Art Academy Suites a home-away-from-home for students from Tennessee, England, Maryland, Michigan, Alabama and cities across Ohio.
The Art Academy's first Resident Advisor lives on-site in her deluxe, private suite.
I don't think the double rainbow makes the student housing look any more attractive. Unfortunately, this was the best shot I managed to get and my phone was the only camera handy at the time (for shame!)
The first to be built on campus in nearly 40 years, the newest residence hall at Texas A&M University at Kingsville is a 630-bed student housing facility that is comprised of three-and four-story buildings that create several courtyards. Built in the campus’ traditional Mission Style, the building includes two and four-bedroom suites with one or two bathrooms, depending on the design, a living room, and a kitchenette. The living and learning environment has study labs, a large lounge and meeting rooms, wireless internet, a full kitchen for student use, laundry facilities and Resident Advisor (RA) apartments.

The demolition of housing in Kents Hill, Milton Keynes, England that was not much more than 10 years old. That this was done is a shame because the buildings could have been renovated and used as council housing or shared ownership for people getting on the property ladder. Instead, Milton Keynes Council thought it would be best to allow a developer to come in and destroy the houses and not even require that the materials be salvaged so as not to be so wasteful.
In addition, much of the greenery - shrubs, plants and trees were torn up, dumped on and ruined at exactly the time of year when birds and other wildlife are nesting and trying to raise young. Their homes would have also been blighted in this process.
Seeing this made us angry. We didn't know what else to do except get photos and document it.
Shame on the Council, the developers and English Partnerships, all of whom were complicit in allowing this to happen. In the name of Greed.

This student yard (unlike a family yard) has many items in it that resemble the life of a student in college. there are chairs in the yard and on the patio for parties or just hanging out around the house. There is a bike leaning up against the porch without being locked up giving the impression that it is used often. On both the left and the right sides of the walkway there are boxes in the yard for perhaps a horseshoe game or just because. The edges of the yard (touching the walkways) are unkept and dispersing onto the edges of the sidewalks. The unkept and unmaintained yard shows that the students that live at this residence may not have the money or the time to put into their yard. The students (becuase they are students) are assumed to be temperary residents and do see the purpose of maintaining their front yard when they will not be living there for very long.
