An idyllic Cotswold scene… Batsford Stud was built by Sir Ernest George for John Freeman Mitford in 1878. Formerly the stables to Batsford Park, the stud now forms part of the Batsford Estate, near Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire. There are about 120 acres of paddocks varying in size, including nursery paddocks for mares with their new-born foals.

Went back for a second visit to this small heath to get some more shots of this pretty butterfly.Didn't expect to find another pristine pair mating..but I did, and just had to take some more shots...

Higher Hyde Heath DWT. The silver-studded blue emerges in June and is usually on the wing until late August. It is a rare butterfly, generally found in heathland habitats that have shorter, sparsely vegetated areas. It is restricted to close-knit colonies in southern England and Wales. Two subspecies can be found in its range, while two others are now extinct in the UK. The larvae feed on a wide variety of plants, such as bell heather, cross-leaved heath and gorses.

This attractive little blue is most often associated with heathlands of southern England, where it can occur in very large numbers. However, in many places it is serious decline, mainly as a result of destruction of heaths and the shading out of the sparsely vegetated, sunny habitats it prefers.

Mating pair of Silver-studded Blue (Plebejus argus) Butterflies.

The dazzling silver-studded blue is a rare butterfly of heathland habitats, mainly in southern England. It has undergone severe population declines in recent years. Info: The Wildlife Trusts.

Another one from the end of June. It had been some years since I actively went looking for butterflies to photograph and I had forgotten how hard it is to contort yourself into the correct position to try and get the whole wing in the plane of focus, maybe that is why I stopped doing it last time!

However for one of the UK's prettiest (and smallest) butterflies - it was worth it!

This tiny rover is built around the idea, if it's possible to stick the wheels directly to the bracket thingy (bricklink is down for maintenance, so I cannot look the part number up) - yes, it works with a short pin-with-stud.

The rest is just "keep it small" and the speed effect is simple rain.

A wonderful backlit Silver-studded Blue this morning. Only saw 2 this morning, 1 yesterday, however these still feel early.

Always a delight to see.

Taken on Dorset Heathland using a Minolta 100mm macro lens.

A lovely silver studded blue butterfly amongst the ling heather. I've been lucky enough to come across quite af few "blues" of various types this year but this was my first images of the silver studded - great to see.

Great day out on the heath yesterday, worked hard on the Silver studded blues, several hundred shots and this one possibly my favorite. As the sun dipped they started to settle with more open wings, a little bit of flash on this one.

The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 17th of January is "plush toys", which is the perfect theme for me, as I have a lovely collection of soft plush bears who quite enjoy being in front of my camera and under my lens. Both made by Merrythought Bears in Ironbridge, Shropshire, Edgar and Benjamin are the two latest additions to my ever burgeoning bear family. I hope you like my choice of bears for this week’s theme, and that it makes you smile.

This beautiful Willow Pattern nursery tea set was made in England by the Shell China Company in the 1920s. It features four cups and saucers as well as a tea pot, coffee pot, milk jug and sugar bowl. Each piece is gilt edged and decorated with the Willow Pattern in blue, just like the life-size equivalent. It has two sister sets: a 1920s Shell China Company nursery rhyme tea set that I was given as a gift some years ago by a close friend who knows I collect nursery ware and children’s tea sets and a faerie tale set from the 1930s Shell China Company faerie tale tea set that I have built up from various sellers over time.

Handmade at Merrythought in England from warm-gold tousled mohair plush, Edgar is a cheerful companion who has terracotta pure cotton velvet paws, and wears a delightful floral cotton bow tie. He is number 2 of a limited worldwide edition of 200.

Benjamin is made by Merrythought in England too. A friendly character, he has been handmade from soft, caramel-coloured mohair plush featuring a chocolate-coloured base that beautifully complements his pure wool felt paws. He wears a traditional, satin-lined waistcoat made from the finest British tweed and secured with brass studs. He is number 110 of a limited worldwide edition of 150.

White-tailed Deer (Odocoileus Virginianus)

It has taken me a while to get a half decent photograph of this relatively uncommon UK species, but finally I have it.

This was photographed on Silchester Common in Hampshire, a noted site for this charming little butterfly.

Silver-studded Blue ; (Plebejus argus)

he Silver-studded Blue gets its name from the light blue reflective scales found on the underside of most adults and which are quite visible when light reflects off them. As with many other species of blue, the males are blue while the female is a less-conspicuous brown. However, this butterfly is highly variable in appearance and, as stated in Dennis (1977), variation extends to "differences in the male upperside coloration, the width of the marginal border (wide in the New Forest, narrow in Devonshire) and the underside grey coloration (dull grey in the New Forest, silvery grey in east Suffolk); in the female to the development of the blue coloration and the orange lunules on the upperside, and on the underside to the coloration, the width and prominence of the medial white band".

This is my first decor pic since forever, but I really loved these colors for Christmas and actually felt a bit inspired. So, here's a mix of some of my favorite holiday items, new & old. I hope you all enjoy the holiday season if you celebrate!

The Plebejus argus butterfly has bright blue wings rimmed in black with white edges and silver spots on its hindwings, lending it the common name of the Silver-studded Blue. However, as in this instance, the “studs” are not always visible. This male was seen on heather in Surrey.
