The wide meadows give the traveler a relaxing place to make a stop between evergreen forests and ferns, but the most important and indispensable of this visit is without a doubt, to contemplate the panoramic views from its viewpoint. Before the eyes opens a real 'sea of pines' to the horizon.

The strongest aurora I have ever experienced - and as often happens on south Skye, there are clouds breaking up the party! But even with the clouds, the aurora brightened the entire sky, even to the east (as in this shot) and west but also to the south and also overhead. The colours, although diffuse, were quite brilliant.
I was asked to post a photo of Cleo and here it is. Sorry but this is the best I could get. Cleo likes warm weather but being catapulted from hibernation into an almost summery heat can wear the strongest cat out. She only bothered to open an eye because I had thrown a treat on her.

They can grow to be nearly 100 feet tall—but it’s the baobab’s bulk and stature that is so astonishing; many have trunks 30 feet in diameter. The Sunland Baobab of South Africa is far bigger still and is reportedly more than 6,000 years old. Its trunk, like those of many old baobabs, is hollow and—as a tourist attraction—even features a small bar inside. Baobab trees are leafless for much of the year and look rather like an oak that has been uprooted and replanted upside down. Numerous legends attempt to explain the bizarre and awesome appearance of the baobab, but if you visit the great Sunland Baobab, just let your jaw drop—and go inside for a drink.

The strongest winds I've ever experienced.... I doubted if I would get any kind of image in very challenging conditions. A few minutes later and the rain was down... well more horizontal in the wind than down!! Still invigorating though... and I have to get back to Skye.

Symbol für Krieg und Teilung.
Die Dömitzer Eisenbahnbrücke wurde von 1871 bis 1873 erbaut. Weil sich hierdurch die Verteidigungslinien von Dömitz, der damals stärksten mecklenburgischen Landfestung, zum preußischen Dannenberg öffneten, wurde die Brücke aus militärischen Gründen auf beiden Ufern der Elbe mit starken Bollwerken befestigt. Ein drehbarer Brückenteil sollte nicht nur der Schifffahrt die Passage erleichtern, sondern notfalls auch die Eisenbahnlinie unterbrechen können.
Im April 1945 wurde die Brücke bei einem alliierten Luftangriff zerstört. Zwar verkehrten nach dem Krieg zwischen Wittenberge und Dömitz wieder kurzfristig Züge, 1947 kam es jedoch endgültig zur Stilllegung der Strecke. So wurde die Brückenruine zum weithin sichtbaren Symbol für Krieg und Teilung.
Den Text habe ich von einer Info-Tafel übernommen, die ganz in der Nähe an einem Parkplatz stand.

Symbol of war and division.
The Dömitz railway bridge was built from 1871 to 1873. Because this opened the defense lines from Dömitz, the strongest Mecklenburg country fortress at the time, to the Prussian Dannenberg, the bridge was fortified with strong bulwarks on both banks of the Elbe for military reasons. A rotating part of the bridge should not only make the passage easier for shipping, but should also be able to interrupt the railway line if necessary.
In April 1945 the bridge was destroyed in an Allied air raid. Although trains ran again briefly between Wittenberge and Dömitz after the war, the line was finally closed in 1947. The ruins of the bridge became a symbol of war and division that can be seen from afar.

I am sure that there are a lot of really strong personalities among you. But in order to hold out in the long term and not completely exhaust yourself, you also need to take breaks (physical but especially mental).
And that's why, whenever possible, take some time out to just care for yourself. And if it's just a few minutes of relaxation while you consciously listen to a song on the radio that touches you. Or pause for a moment to look at a flower or listen to the song of a bird.
It's minutes, sometimes just seconds, that in the end give you the strength and energy to remain steadfast and, like this sunflower, to keep your head up.
With this in mind and in the spirit of the above quote (which I really like, by the way), I wish you a relaxing weekend.

Und darum nehmt Euch, wann immer es möglich ist, eine Auszeit in der Ihr nur für Euch sorgt. Und wenn es nur wenige Minuten der Entspannung sind, während Ihr bewusst einem Lied Radio zuhört, welches Euch berührt. Oder einen Moment innehaltet um eine Blume zu betrachten oder dem Gesang eines Vogels zu lauschen.
Es sind Minuten, manchmal nur Sekunden, die Euch am Ende die Kraft und Energie geben um standhaft zu bleiben und wie diese Sonnenblume, den Kopf oben zu behalten.
In diesem Sinne und in dem des o.g. Zitates (welches mir im Übrigens richtig gut gefällt) wünsche ich Euch ein erholsames Wochenende.

Brian competes in the final event of the World's Strongest Snail 2026 competition, the Atlas Stones - this involves five heavy spheres, increasing in weight, that must be placed on top of five platforms along a course. You've got this Brian - he is determined to win this year!
For Macro Mondays theme 'Sphere'. Given that the ping pong ball was 4 cm in diameter, the image was cropped to about 7.2 cm.
I hadn't planned on participating this week, but I dropped in on a friend who mentioned his table tennis club - and the proverbial light bulb lit up over my head. I asked if he had any spare ping pong balls and he produced a white one and orange one (I didn't know they came in orange).
No snails were harmed in the making of this photograph.

The autumn colors here in Saxon Switzerland are like nothing I have experienced in a long time. Everything shines in the strongest golden tones up to reddish brown. Even if the sun is a bit rare, it is an experience to hike through this rocky world.
