This geyser continues to erupt every 5-10 minutes, and the power of the eruption varies, and the height can reach 40+ ft.

This image was taken at the beginning of the eruption, where the base of the water has that aqua color. At the peak of the eruption, you don't see that color anymore, therefore I chose to use this one instead of the fully erupted one.

This attraction is free, however, if you'd like to eat in the visitor center, I've heard that the price is quite high, therefore, my advise is to skip it. There is a great local, hand-made ice cream place nearby, around 15 minute drive, which we went to. They also have a full restaurant, and the ice cream was out of this world. I had to have 2 of those cones+2 scoops. They made the ice creams from their own cows, which you can actually see them next door, behind the glass windows....awesome. Sorry, forgot what the name of that place, but I think you can find it on Trip Advisor.

Strokkur geyser at Geysir - Iceland

Gran experiencia.

The Great Geysir is the oldest known geyser and one of the most impressive examples of this phenomenon in the entire world. It is located in the Haukadalur valley. Most of the time, the Geysir can shoot boiling water up to more than 80 meters. The big show usually lasts a few seconds of maximum explosion and between explosion and explosion it takes about 10-15 minutes. Little by little you see how the water begins to boil and you see that the moment is approaching. On windy days, depending on where you are, you end up wet. Great experience.

Liebe Flickrfreunde,

Dear flickr friends,

these are the last shots of my Iceland trip and the last official photos, which I share with you on Flickr. For now I've decided to break off with Flickr and share only among friends. Maybe I set the one or other image to Public, but I will definitely stop commenting and faving. If you like, you can drop me a flickr mail, which I will read and answer. I promise!

I wish you a lot of fun with Flickr!!!

Image captured just at the moment that the geyser was just forming and was about to expel the water towards 80 meters. It is very exciting how the water boils for 10 minutes and little by little you see that the bubble is created that suddenly releases the water.

Geysir mirrored in Blesi hot spring, Iceland.

I had this shot on my mind already for a quite a while, and hoped that conditions would allow this time to capture an acceptable reflection: A moment without too much wind, no steam drifting in from the pool next to it, and the erupting geysir all at the same time. Furthermore the extreme low camera position didn't make it easier. Luckily this geysir erupts every few minutes. It took quite a while and several attempts, but finally, I think I got an acceptable result.

Strokkur

(It's the Icelandic name of this geyser, the name comes from this place), regular and impressive water and steam columns !

Islanda- Geysir - geyser Strokkur_HDR

Strokkur is one of Iceland's most famous geysers, erupting once every 6–10 minutes with a usual height of 15–20 meters. Sometimes, though, it can reach up to 40 and we saw this happen once when it poured down on the many many tourists visiting the place

three conditions are necessary for the appearance of a geyser:

* water in depth which can circulate and then rise freely (no obstacles)

° a reservoir;

* the proximity of a pocket of magma which heats the water.

It is possible to find hot springs and geysers in non-volcanic regions if the geothermal gradient is sufficient! Thus heated, the water turns into steam. The pressure increases and propels a powerful jet of water and steam to the surface. The surface orifice is generally narrow. The intensity of the forces at play explains the rarity of the phenomenon. Geysers therefore differ from simple hot springs by the underground geological structure.

Strokkur projects hot water into the air at a height of 20 meters, sometimes exceptionally up to 40 meters.

The more complete documentation appears in the 3 photos of yesterday

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Strokkur is a fountain-type geyser located in a geothermal area beside the Hvítá River in Iceland in the southwest part of the country, east of Reykjavík.

Strokkur is the geyser that is most active at the Geysir area.Old Geysir is mostly inactive, since the water bowl is being too large for him. But when we have the large South Iceland earthquakes it becomes active for some months. Last time the summer 2008. When He erupts it is like nothing I have seen - up to 80 m. column of water. Strokkur is seldom more than 40 m. high. Which is pretty awesome!

Strokkur is Iceland’s most visited active geyser. One of the three major attractions on the world-famous Golden Circle sightseeing route, it is usually visited alongside Gullfoss Waterfall and Þingvellir National Park.

Strokkur is found in the Geysir Geothermal Area, titled after the Great Geysir, which lent its name to all others across the world. When I visted Strokkur was erupting every three or four minutes, blasting water to heights of around fifteen to twenty metres into the air.
