In 1939, as part of the New York World's Fair, the London Midland & Scottish Railway undertook the mammoth task of releasing one of their streamlined locomotives and matching train sets and shipping them across the Atlantic for display as part of the Transportation exhibits in New York. This was not the first time the LMSR had shown such panache as in 1933 they had sent the Royal Scot train to the United States on a tour.

The locomotive seen 'here' and that was displayed at the Fair following a journey around the US was badged up as 6220 'Coronation' and carried the streamlined crimson livery; it was in fact locomotive 6229 Duchess of Hamilton disguised and the original 6220, one of the first five of the larger class, originally carried the streamlined 'Caledonian Blue' livery. The whole Fair was overshadowed by the outbreak of war in 1939 and the train was effectively stranded in the US. The locomotive returned to the UK in 1942 and regained its original identity the following year. The carriages had to wait until 1946 until being repatriated.

The leaflet opens to describe the importance of the LMS and its services along with descriptions of the territory it served. There was a similar leaflet, printed in blue, that was issued during the tour around the US in 1939 before the train appeared at the Fair.

This elegant two-door 402 B saloon is quite rare.

The modern looking streamlined Peugeot 402 series was presented at the 1935 Paris Motor Show. In the early 1930s revolutionary aerodynamic theories were applied for the first time to mass produced cars. Avant-garde cars like 1934 Tatra 77 and the 1934 Chrysler Airflow gained a lot of positive attention. The 402 was Peugeot's answer to its direct competitor the streamlined 1934 Citroën TA.

The 402 was developed by the Département Études Carrosseries, under supervision of Henri Thomas.

The Peugeot 02-series was also called Fuseau-Sochaux.

The 402 series replaced the predecessors 401 and 601 (from 1934-1935).

Many body variants were available.

The 402 B with an increased engine, followed in Summer 1938.

Note the lack of a running board.

Besides several Art Deco details, the headlamps placed behind the grille were very remarkable.

About my book.

I published a book in old days.

At that time, I was uploading my interview on the net on the net.

That Japanese and English.

I will make it public for free.

Details were explained to the Amazon site.

How to write a novel.

How to take pictures.

Distance to the work.

They all have a common item.

I made a sentence about what I felt, and left it.

I hope that my text can be read by many people.

Thank you.

Main story

There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.

One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.

The other, to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days, staring at the shine

quietly.

Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.

I face myself to change tomorrow, a vague day into something certain.

That is the meaning of a rebirth.

I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.

After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After

she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies

until I realized it is love?

I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the

daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.

I had been thinking about such a thing.

However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable

tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.

Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

Explanation of composition. 2

I used the following cameras.

Nikon coolpix 8700

I defeated two of these cameras.

It was a very nice camera.

I took many photos with this camera.

Today's photo.

It was also taken with this camera.

I explained the composition in detail in the text at the time of shooting.

I have taken a lot of pictures until today.

Among them, this photo is the result of sharpening my sensitivity.

I will explain this composition in a video.

But they are all Japanese.

Is there a Japanese beside you?

Is there anyone who can understand Japanese beside you?

Please have them translate.

I leave an important story about composition.

I hope they will reach many people.

The Mercedes-Benz W25 was a Grand Prix racing car designed by Daimler-Benz AG for the 1934 Grand Prix season, in which new rules were introduced, and no championship was held. In 1935, the European Championship was resumed, and it was won by Rudolf Caracciola in a W25. In modified form, the W25 remained in use until 1937, when it was succeeded by the Mercedes-Benz W125. (Wikipedia)

In 1936, German driver Rudolf Caracciola set a new speed record with this streamlined car on an Autobahn near Frankfurt reaching 372 km/h resp. 231 mph.

Note the lack of a running board, and this convex boot lid. It appeared with the renewed 402 B, and it covers the spare wheel.

Besides several Art Deco details, the headlamps placed behind the grille were very remarkable.

the second largest HAJJ next to MECCA.

Ok my story streamlined.

I went to BDESH for the 5th time to shoot IJTEMA.

NO preparations, put on my shorts

showed up at the beginning of the long stretch

to the TURAG river.

I was the only Caucasian I'm sure with short pants sporting a blue Philadelphia Philly baseball hat on backwards in this very very very very antiquated backwards country.

This was a scene out of the BIBLE.

I admit i showed disrespect, but before i realized it i was just dressing like I always did in the old days when i shot in hot countries.

The looks i got were not very inviting, as i strolled along with the crowd.

Crowds began to form around me as if i was some kind of animal.

Mean spirited looks i thought, for no one wanted to shake hands or ask me anything.

In about 30 minutes i was asked to leave. i imagine because of photography phobia or my attire.. " Go Go Go no photo "

I could have stood my ground and made a fuss. Instead i walked away from the mass of people and headed out of TONGI to DHAKA.

As you can see i stopped the action here.

Next year ill wear a New York Yankees white hat instead.

C&O streamlined steam locomotive 490, B&O Railroad Museum. Taken back in 1993 when many of these iconic locomotives were still displayed outside (not good for preservation, but it was good for photos), this engine is now on display inside the restored Car Shop building, which added nicely to the Museum's facilities. A description of the 490 from the museum's website:

The No. 490 was constructed by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) for the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway (C&O) in 1926. As one of the five F-19 4-6-2 "Pacific" locomotives built for the C&O, the No. 490 was used on passenger trains on the mainline east of Charlottesville and west of Clifton Forge. In 1930, the No. 490 was assigned to the "Sportsman," the premier C&O passenger train at the time. Later, the No. 490 was transferred to the "George Washington." The No. 490 and other 4-6-2s operated between the Cincinnati and Washington route until 1942 when the C&O replaced the "Pacifics" with new heavy Baldwin 4-8-4. The No. 490 and other 4-6-2s continued to run as secondary passenger trains during World War II.

Shortly after the end of the war, the C&O decided to upgrade their passenger service. The C&O was primarily a coal-hauler and therefore wanted to improve steam locomotive technology. They developed a new luxury liner between Washington and Cincinnati named the "Chessie." The new liner was to be powered by experimental steam-turbine-electric locomotives. In addition, the C&O's Huntington shops rebuilt the No. 490 and the other 4-6-2s into 4-6-4 "Hudsons." The new locomotives had roller bearings, front-end throttle, high-speed booster, cross counterbalance, and the Franklin system of steam distribution.

Due to the increased automobile production and the airline expansion that occurred after the war, the luxury Chessie passenger trains never ran. The rebuilt "Hudsons" instead hauled regular passenger trains until 1953. The No. 490 was stored in the Huntington Roundhouse until 1968 when it was moved to the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum.

Locomotive 488 began life as a classic streamlined EMD F-7 locomotive with the Santa Fe Railroad and was later rebuilt into its current configuration as a CF-7 road switcher as part of Santa Fe's infamous rebuild program in the 1970s.

After being sold off by Santa Fe, it went to the Keokuk Junction Railway where it received the iconic orange paint that it still wears today. Sometime in the 1990s, it was relocated to North Mississippi to run on Pioneer Railcorp's "Mississippi Central Railroad", where it spent a few decades running between Grand Junction, TN and Oxford, MS.

In 2023, it was purchased by the newly reformed Rock Island Railroad and transported roughly 100 miles away to their "Mississippi Delta Railroad" operation, where it was delivered on June 6, 2023.

This ergonomic and streamlined battle rifle is perfectly suitable for operators and sport shooters alike. She's reliable, light-weight and dead accurate.

Chambered in the battle-proven 7.62x51mm NATO, this beautiful beast packs a real punch. On fully automatic, it rocks a steady fire rate of 650 rounds per minute, giving the user the ability to control the recoil remarkably well.

Quicksilver Ind. produces top of the line firearms made for easy and cheap mass production, while maintaining very high quality. Our firearms will always be fully ambidextrous, two toned, operator-friendly and accessory-friendly.

It seemed only right that I went back to Cromwell Moor where I stood on the 1st December 2007 to witness the inaugural mainline run of No 60019. This was the A4's first outing on the mainline since the 1970's and I can't believe it is now seven years ago since that day. So with the A4 on borrowed time before withdrawal at the end of this year I went back to that same spot. Now sporting the streamlined look No 4464 speeds through with the 'Cathedrals Express' charter from Kings Cross. Good to meet up with Andrew Southall and Trevor Feltham hope you got your second shot at Babworth gentlemen. Just a shame about the hi-viz vest crew member.

Thursday 4th December 2014 IZ69 Kings Cross-York-Kings Cross LNER A4 Class 4-6-2 No 4464 'Bittern' at Cromwell Moor

The Display is actually quite interesting. I wanted to include a base for the model and I ordered 400 tiles 1x2 "Grille" to give the same look that the American bases had on Vietnam. However, the model is actually quite big and 400 wasn´t by far enough. I will have to order more.

The Display also includes a large Fire extinguisher and a small trolly with 6 fragmentation bombs.

During the Vietnam War, the USAF needed a powerful ground attack aircraft that could fly over the “Ho Chi Minh trail” for long periods of time. They then decided to bring back the “old” Douglas B-26 Invader bomber from WW2 and modified it for the new environment. The aircraft was a success but metal fatigue led to the modification of some aircraft to a new standard, the Douglas B-26K Counter Invader, improved with upgraded engines, new sensors, wing tip fuel tanks and an overall greater bomb-load.

The modernised planes began to perform their missions over Vietnam in 1965 and continued until 1969 when they were replaced by more advanced bombers.

About the model:

This plane was made for the BrickFairVA 2018 Vietnam Collab and it will be at that Event in August.

The model features retractable landing gear, internal bomb bay, external wing supports for bombs, napalm tanks and rockets and movable elevators.

During the construction I had the option of making a more streamlined nose with a simple ticker instead of the guns but I wanted to include the 8 barrels of the 50cal machine guns so this was the solution. Since I don´t have many fleshy minifigs, I had to use these ones but I will use some better ones during the Event.

It´s actually quite impressive the weapons load that this aircraft could carry during the war.

The streamlined Chrysler ‘Airflow’, reminiscent of an American diesel locomotive, created much consternation among the public in 1934.

The wind-tunnel tested Airflow concept by Chrysler engineer Carl Breer nevertheless did render the car faster and more economical, as expected. It was also equipped with many technical innovations such as an automatic overdrive transmission. The wide body’s tubular steel frame was welded to the chassis, a precursor to unitary construction.

Nevertheless, the public was not enthused by the Airflow as the exterior proved too controversial. Attempts to give the car a more traditional front end did not increase sales and the model was discontinued in 1937.

The Chrysler Airflow in the museum is one of the very few delivered in the Netherlands and still carries the original number plate for the province of Noord-Holland. It has never been restored and still has the original paintwork.

March 2013

Meccano called this a streamlined racing car. It was actually "Thunderbolt" which was a world speed record car driven by George Eyston

The line at the post office wasn’t too long for once, thankfully. The process had become pretty streamlined by now. Box whatever you were shipping, ID chip and barcode them accordingly, hand it off to the lady behind the counter, and have faith in Pittsburgh’s postage system. Out of sight, out of mind.

The next point on her route was the armory. Dijon wasn’t in at the time. Instead, one of the assistant armorers was in his place. Younger blood amongst the armory team, but fortunately he didn’t give Kelly too much trouble. Signing back in arms had become routine. Registering and pawning off salvaged ones was a different story.

With all her business attended to, she began making her way up to the habitation levels. Her next patrol shift wasn’t until later in the afternoon, so she had a few hours of free time to burn.

To get to the main habitation complex, she had to go through the farming sector. ‘The Solarium’, as it was colloquially called, was a massive food producing greenhouse built to support the population of Schenley. It was one of the few places in the outpost where a person could experience almost direct sunlight, filtered through the multiple layers of paneled glass which encased the facility. It was even recommended for citizens to pass through regularly. On top of getting a good source of vitamin D, the regulated humidity and natural oxygen production made the air quality the best within the entire outpost.

The Solarium was a blend of several different mediums of agriculture. From garden-variety farming techniques to more advanced hydroponics and aeroponics. Vertical farming had been implemented to maximize space, but the area still didn’t feel too cramped. Long aisles of crop rows, complemented by the dozen or so grow towers which jutted up to the ceiling.

Over the years various additional fruit, vegetable, and herb species had been imported and introduced into the crop selection. Aside from providing picky eaters more choices, it was primarily intended as a contingency against crop dependence. If for whatever reason one crop failed, they still had backups to rely on. Regardless, Kelly enjoyed having the choice between red or green onions.

As she continued along the catwalk through the greenhouse, a trio of pigeons flew by. Pigeon keeping had become one of the many popular small-scale alternatives to old-world animal factory farming, alongside rabbit and quail. The downsizing of animal agriculture made it easier to spare the space amongst the more remote outposts. Something of a grassroots community effort.

Goat and pig were still the primary sources of meat in Pittsburgh, though that required far more specialized zoning within the outposts.

The windows gave a clear view of the abandoned world beyond. The dilapidated buildings of Oakland, the looming University construction site, with the derelict skyscrapers of downtown Pittsburgh just barely peeking over the ridgeline to the far west.

Most governments that took shape after The Choke decided upon a full transparency approach; choosing not to hide the old world from their inhabitants. A person could look out a window and see the real world that lay beyond it.

Some saw it as a backhanded source of hope. It gave people a view of what the world had once been, and ‘inspire them to rebuild it anew’, or however the figures in government had put it.

Still, the natural lighting and overgrown landscape helped make things a little less depressing inside the outposts. It gave the illusion they weren’t completely shut in from the rest of the world. At least they weren’t locked away in some hole in the ground.

I put the recommended music at the end, since its a shorter track. Too short to listen to while reading. But it still gives the atmosphere I was going for with this part. *Dramatic pan over the desolate world that lay outside!* Or something like that.

As I implied with the previous part, I was really dreading this scene. I knew ahead of time that what I had in my head was pretty ambitious compared to the previous scenes. I still don't think I executed it to my full vision. Kind of that compromise between *What am I picturing?* vs *What is actually feasible for me to make?*

The depth of field makes it so you can't even distinguish majority of the detail in the background cityscape. I'm still struggling to find that happy medium.

Moving on to the actual story, this part is kind of meant to dispel the impression some people have had, thinking the outposts are like something out of Metro or Fallout. No, they're above ground. There are windows. You've got the nice cinematic view of the old world outside. There are a few other things I'd mention, but I'll leave it until someone decides to bring them up in the comments.

4 is a remarkable early survivor of the GWR railcar fleet. It is the only one to survive with the earlier design of streamlined bodywork and, remarkably for a single unit, it has a buffet counter fitted!

In early 1979 the vehicle was transferred dead on its own wheels as special freight from Didcot to York with a brakevan at each end. In July of that year the NRM approached RESCO Railway (Woolwich) regarding carrying out further works to the vehicle with an eye to returning it to active running. However, in March of 1980 the survey results from RESCO had found that whilst the vehicle body was in good condition, the structural framework and cladding, as well as the mechanical equipment needed considerable work. Their assessment deemed the apparent good condition as little more than an effective paintjob.

Agreement was reached by the National Railway Museum for the railcar to be displayed at the Great Western Railway Museum in Swindon as had originally been envisaged. Transportation of the vehicle from the RESCO works in Erith to Swindon Museum took place around June of 1984. The vehicle remained at the GWR Museum in Swindon on extended loan until 2015, when the vehicle was moved back to York.

4 is currently on full public display, undercover at the National Railway Museum in York.

Although it looked extremely streamlined, fast and powerful, the Airacuda was actually... almost a complete failure. It was heavy, slow, it was impossible to dogfight with it and had constant overheating problems with it´s two pusher engines mounted on the wing nacelles. Also, each time the 37mm guns were fired, the nacelles would be filled with smoke, the shells had a very low muzzle velocity (giving them an extremely short range) and no thought was given to how the gunners would escape in an emergency, since they had the propellers behind them. To improve handling on the ground and during take-off, a tricycle version of the Aircraft was also developed.

The Airacuda also had temperamental electrical systems and was the only aircraft ever built to rely on an independent auxiliary power unit (APU) to power both engine fuel pumps, as well as all aircraft electrical systems. This means that if the APU had a failure, the aircraft was virtually lost since it would lose very quickly all fuel pressure, vacuum, hydraulic pressure, gear, flaps and finally the engines!

Amazingly, it "technically" had a short operational career. A total of 13 examples were built and they saw some limited use with a single squadron between 1938 and 1940, however, they spent most of their time on the hangars since they kept having maintenance issues without solution.

Overtime, these aircrafts were dispersed on various airfields so that pilots could add it to their log books. When the Second World War started, instead of being pressed into service as patrol aircrafts, they were all unceremoniously scrapped.

The road (partially seen) running diagonally from the bottom of the image to the mid-right, is the famous Madison Avenue, from 30th East Street to 25th East Street.

This is most of NoMad ("NOrth of MADison Square Park"), a neighbourhood centred on the Madison Square North Historic District in the borough of Manhattan in New York City. The area is described on some websites as New York's hottest up-and-coming neighbourhood. Certainly some of the apartments advertised in those four blocks are enormous...

The name NoMad, which has been in use since 1999, is derived from the area’s location north of Madison Square Park. The neighborhood is bordered by East 25th Street to the south, East 29th or East 30th Street to the north, Sixth Avenue (Avenue of the Americas) to the west and Madison or Lexington Avenue to the east.

The building in the bottom left corner of the image is 79 Madison Avenue, a 17-storey, 250,000-square-foot Art Deco building with a beautiful entrance featuring a restored marble lobby, inspiring chandeliers and a gold leaf ceiling.

Dominating the mid-right of the image is the New York Life Insurance Building, located at 51 Madison Avenue, across from Madison Square Park. It is the headquarters of the New York Life Insurance Company. Designed in 1926 by Cass Gilbert, who also designed the landmark Woolworth Building, it was apparently inspired by Salisbury Cathedral in Wiltshire. It rises 40 stories to its pyramidal gilded roof and occupies the full block between 26th and 27th Streets, Madison Avenue and Park Avenue South, a rarity in Manhattan. The building is 187m tall and was the last significant Gilbert skyscraper in Manhattan.

Previously, from 1837–1889, the site was occupied by the Union Depot of the New York and Harlem and the New York and New Haven Railroads, a concert garden, and P T Barnum's Hippodrome. Until 1925, the site housed the first two Madison Square Gardens, the second one designed by architect Stanford White.

The building was completed in 1928 after two years of construction at the cost of $21 million. It combines streamlined Gothic details and distinctly Moderne massing. The gold pyramid at the top consists of 25,000 gold-leaf tiles. The building was designated a National Historic Landmark in the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.

The elegantly streamlined Single-leaf Bascule Rolling Bridge on Victoria’s Johnson Street was inaugurated on 31 March 2018. It replaced the now dismantled, nearly century-old, structure built in 1924 that had been a near carbon-copy of Kingston Ontario’s LaSalle Causeway Heel Trunnion Bascule Bridge completed in 1916. The removal of Victoria’s old bridge makes the centennial LaSalle Causeway structure even more of a rarity. The original design and age of the Kingston Causeway Bridge make the structure a high maintenance crossing to and from Downtown Kingston with plans in the works for major restoration now that the Waaban third crossing is in full operation. The LaSalle Causeway bridge is an undisputed historical landmark to Kingston and the beating heart for the southern entrance to the Rideau Canal. Nonetheless, the new Downtown Victoria lift bridge offers a compelling example that old bridges, even those with historic values, can be replaced with highly functional modern structures that would also add to the beauty and attractiveness of the link to Kingston Downtown Core.

In 2000 the NSWRTM ran a special from New South Wales throughout Victoria and to Portland and Dimboola. The locos for the trip were 3801,3830 as well as 4201,44211. After coming from Portland the special is seen passing through Stawell enroute to Dimboola with 3801,3830 upfront passing Great Northern's GM27,GM22 stabled in the goods loop on a ballast train on 25-4-2000

What a marvellous magazine cover by L Ashwell Wood showing the tube train wonder of the age speeding through a tube tunnel under London! The driver can be seen in the cut-away with controls looking much like an American PCC streetcar - joystick controls- and certainly not like London's tube trains of the day or the future. It is interesting in that by 1938 the new tube trains being delivered to London Transport would not have the streamlining as seen here that was trialled in 1935. The prototype streamliners were reconstructed with flat cab fronts and the 1938-tube stock went on to be the epitome of a London tube train for many years. The asbestos lined tunnels - a few sections were experimentally fitted, long before the true dangers of this material were understood, and the sections later had to be expensively decontaminated.

Due to an impending storm, it got gloomy in the afternoon and I had the spring all to myself, or so I thought.

While I was prowling the bank for a turtle I had just spotted, this one decided to come out to join me. Luckily, I spotted it first, and had time to turn on my light and move in close enough for some shots.

Baltimore & Ohio's class P-7 Pacifics were known as "The Presidents." Delivered by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1927, they originally bore the names of the first 21 Presidents of the United States (the two Adamses sharing one locomotive). In the late 1930s, 5304 PRESIDENT MONROE, was streamlined for service on the B&O Royal Blue train between Washington and New York. The bulletnosed streamlining by famed designer Otto Kuhler became the model for a popular American Flyer toy train

In 1946 B&O streamlined 5301-5304 for service on the Cincinnatian between Washington and Cincinnati; the train was shifted to a Detroit-Cincinnati run in 1950. As rebuilt, 5304 was reclassified P-7d. The locomotive weight was 316,000 pounds. 5304 was displayed at the Chicago Railroad Fair in 1948. The streamlining was later removed and No. 5304's designation reverted to P-7

Streamlined rear engine coach from the 1950s , now used as a mobile home.

This Superior 500 replaced the Superior 400 and had a more streamlined body. It was developed under the principles of Paul Jaráy (Vienna, 1889-1974) and the technical supervision of Josef Ganz (Budapest, 1898-1967).

At the end of 1933, a small delivery van variant was also introduced until 1938. After that year, Standard founder Wilhelm Gutbrod (near Stuttgart, 1890-1948) sold the small van under his own name as Gutbrod Merkur HV 504. The body was very similar to that of the Simca 5 Fourgonnette.

Some background info:

In the 1930s there was an increasing need for a real people's car in the German-speaking region. A car affordable for the masses, the so called 'Volkswagen'.

One of the leading engineers at that time was Josef Ganz. After he had worked for Adler, BMW, Daimler-Benz and Röhr, he developed his own minicar in 1931, the 'Maikäfer'.

In Standard Fahrzeugbau he found a manufacturer and in 1932 the Standard Superior 400 was launched (officially presented at the IAMA, the Berlin international motor show, Febr. 1933).

This cheap car was based on the 'Maikäfer' principles: tubular chassis, rear engine, independent wheel suspension and with a streamlined body.

Journalist Paul Schilperoord wrote a very interesting book about the history of the development of the VW Beetle in the 1930s. In this book he describes the life and works of Josef Ganz who's technical ideas were taken over by Ferdinand Porsche. The book reads like a very exciting story.

The Coronation was LNER's streamlined express passenger train between London King's Cross and Edinburgh Waverley. Named to mark the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, it was inaugurated on 5 July 1937. The train's streamlined design was based on that of The Silver Jubilee, but instead of being painted silver it was given a two-tone blue livery. Internally it was decorated in the Art Deco style

In 1937, LNER built two observation coaches at Doncaster Works for use on The Coronation express passenger train during the summer months. Looking quite different to the teak coaches, they in many respects resembled the LNER Class A4 locomotives that hauled the train. The carriages had a conventional corridor connection at one end and a deeply glazed tapered end at the other. Both were fitted out with and a luxury bar/lounge combination

During the Second World War both were put in storage and, in 1959, E1719E was rebuilt by British Railways with larger panoramic windows for West Highland Line specials. The other coach, numbered E1729E, went into a long period of storage at Steamtown, Carnforth. Both coaches survive today in the hands of Railway Vehicle Preservations Ltd on the preserved Great Central Railway, Loughborough, where they allow first class ticket holders to travel in restored E1719E

The observation cars had a distinctive "beaver tail" shape. They ran in this form until the Second World War when the train's coaches were put in store. In 1948, various vehicles returned to service as general passenger stock, but they never ran as a full set again - the observation cars were transferred to the West Highland line in 1956. Their original observation end was found to give limited views, so British Railways rebuilt them with a more angled end and added larger windows, running in this form from 1959 to 1968

Norfolk Southern operated N&W J-class 4-8-4 Northern streamlined steam locomotive # 611 is preparing to depart for it Railfan Excursion Trip from Oneida back to Chattanooga, Tennessee, October 1989. The tender and the auxiliary water tender are being topped off with water prior to departure, and you can see the hoses connected to them. The locomotive with its tool and machinery baggage car are coupled to the train. A cab crew member is leaning out of the engineer's cab window. One of the extended height hopper cars that supplies coal for the tender is spotted on the next track.

Knuckles Range

is an endemic frog from the Knuckles Mountain Range. I was with Mr. Sameera and Dr Anslem.

IUCN status: Kirtisinghe's rock frog seems to be declining in numbers and it is listed as "Critically endangered" in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. This is because it occurs as several separate populations in a total area of only 100 square kilometres (39 sq mi) and its habitat is being lost because of livestock grazing and tourism, and the streams in which it lives may be being polluted by agrochemicals from tea and cardamom plantations.
