I know there's no Straight Up Sunday group, but it almost sounds like there should be. This week has been fun but tiring and I didn't want to leave the house on Sunday, even though the weather outside was gorgeous. A straight up shot seemed appropriate. Of course, straight ups always end up being the hardest! Especially when your hair's a mess and you have bags under your eyes, but hey, this is how I look 75% of the time. :-)

It was getting late a couple nights ago as I came down the trail and it got dark on me. Just as I got under these trees a bird cried out and dove at me. I got too close to it's nest, I guess. One set of eyes (those glowing white things in the limbs) are from the eyes of the angry mother...
this is the most typical equivalent of "hot sauce" around here. A straight-up bowl of chilis. no messin around. This bowl (in the kitchen of the road-side noodle shop in question, not on the tables) was gigantic but as is typical, each table has a wee bowl too.

Straight up at Calaveras Big Trees State Park in California. These are the largest trees in the world--not the tallest, but the biggest. They get up to 250-300ft, and over 30ft in diameter; they can weight up to 4000 tons, and may contain enough wood to build 40 five-room houses.
I love especially the architecture of these two majestic towers before me,with the fountain of wealth in front.
I took this from the bottom front of the tower, largely to add to the "From Below - Straight Up" photo pool.
If I had this much sunlight in my apartment, I think I would be a lot happier. Then again, I would probably never leave the house. I'm not sure how those two things would counteract with each other... (U.W.S. - Manhattan)

i've been having trouble sleeping (or rather i wake up in the middle of the night and then have trouble falling back asleep). a coworker from china suggested i take fish oil. um. yeah. no.
You'd think that on my vacation I'd actually have the time to take some decent 365 shots, but you'd be wrong. We've been doing some final renovations to the apartment and they're a major time suck.
This is looking pretty much.... straight... up. This slope is up in the Beartooth Mountains past Red Lodge. It's above the treeline, and pretty much all scree and sedimentary rock. The road is *very* narrow and *very* winding and just a little nerve-wracking. Especially when you're the one looking out your window straight up (or down) the mountain. The edge of the road that you see is the same 2-lane road we were traveling on - just a hairpin turn and a steep climb away.
