Downpatrick commemorates the life and presumed final resting place of St. Patrick, Apostle to the Irish.
According to tradition, St Patrick landed close to this site in 432AD and encountered a local chieftain named Dichu who gave him a barn for shelter and worship. A place of worship has stood on this site ever since. The present church was erected to commemorate the 1500th anniversary of St Patrick's arrival and was consecrated in 1933. It was designed by Henry Seaver and incorporates elements of early Celtic architecture, including the 60ft high round tower.
These are two cute girls with nose studs and short hair and they are both my friends and can you believe they never met before? This is magic.
