The hamlet of Porticello in the municipality of Santa Flavia, from time immemorial owes its economy to fishing and its related activities. From a simple sandstone sampling site necessary for the construction of the noble palaces of the past, it has gradually transformed into the place of residence of a vital small but important fishing community, which, from time to time, have been able to be inventors of fishing systems and discoverers of shoals of more effective exploitation. The initial small community, which grew up around the fishing activity of the ancient tuna fishery of Solanto - one of the oldest fixed tuna traps on the island - has evolved over time, facing, a little out of necessity and a little out of desire to new entrepreneurial experiences, including the field of the first conservation and transformation of the fish.

La frazione di Porticello del comune di Santa Flavia, da tempo immemorabile deve la sua economia all’attività di pesca ed al suo indotto. Da semplice sito di prelievo di arenaria necessaria per la costruzione dei palazzi nobiliari di un tempo, si è trasformata, via via, in luogo di residenza di una vitale piccola ma importante comunità di pescatori, che, di volta in volta, hanno saputo essere inventori di sistemi di pesca e scopritori di banchi di più efficace sfruttamento. La iniziale piccola comunità, cresciuta intorno all’attività di pesca dell’antica tonnara di Solanto – una delle più antiche tonnare fisse dell’isola-, si è evoluta nel tempo, affrontando, un po’ per necessità e un po’ per voglia di nuove esperienze imprenditoriali, anche il campo della prima conservazione e trasformazione del pescato.

The Speicherstadt (Storage City) in Hamburg is a listed complex of warehouses in the port district of the Hanseatic city since 1991.
Since 2015, it has also been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The first section of the complex was completed 1888 and the Area of the Speicherstadt is about 26 hectares.

Tulips (Tulipa) form a genus of spring-blooming perennial herbaceous bulbiferous geophytes (having bulbs as storage organs). The flowers are usually large, showy and brightly colored, generally red, pink, yellow, or white (usually in warm colors). They often have a different colored blotch at the base of the tepals (petals and sepals, collectively), internally. Tulips originally were found in a band stretching from Southern Europe to Central Asia, but since the seventeenth century have become widely naturalised and cultivated. Flowering in the spring, they become dormant in the summer once the flowers and leaves die back, emerging above ground as a shoot from the underground bulb in early spring. The tulip's flowers are usually large and are actinomorphic (radially symmetric) and hermaphrodite (contain both male (androecium) and female (gynoecium) characteristics), generally erect, or more rarely pendulous, and are arranged more usually as a single terminal flower, or when pluriflor as two to three (e.g. Tulipa turkestanica), but up to four, flowers on the end of a floriferous stem (scape), which is single arising from amongst the basal leaf rosette. 11717
The title may suggest that there is partial space for storage in this structure. The title actually means that you can easily store your six tractor trailer cabs in this barn. Notice the size of the entrance door on the side of the garage! You could put two times this house in the garage. This building is clearly owned by someone who values mechanical toys rather than a big screen TV. Better yet, the TV is probably in the garage. When the husband says he is going to the garage, he could be gone for days. I can see the divorce papers now. “But Judge, he was buying his 7th Semi and all I asked for was a washing machine!”
Victoria and Albert Museum:
Examples of the works of Art in the Museum – South Kensington Museum – Published in 2 Volumes in 1881 – Book 1 - Plate Nos: 37 - 42
Sometime ago I posted some of the illustrations from the above book and I hoped that would be able to find them physically in the museum and photograph them. I took the third set of 15 illustrations from this book and went on the V & A website; Search the Collections. My results were based upon the following criteria:
(1) Items I did locate and photograph.
(2) Items that were in storage
(3) Items I couldn’t find anywhere
So I will be posting them, along with their locations in the museum, against the original plate and photograph from storage (where possible). The original price and any further information I might find.
One thing I didn’t count on, was that renovations would alter the interior of the building so drastically. I have found it very difficult to pin some of these locations down but in the main they have been found.
Not many of the examples shown this time were successful, as can be seen I only found 1 item.
UP LBU52 completes its pickup at National Warehouse and is about to start its return trip to Butler. The Wisconsin Cold Storage building in the background was built in 1892 with an addition being built in 1928.

With at the time, a bold forecast of heavy grain traffic in Canada, the decision was made to bring in reinforcements, i.e., pull power out of storage, which meant all but about half a dozen 8-40CM's were reactivated. BCOL 4604 was one of the chosen ones as it was pulled out of Homewood and put back in service. While the grain was not as heavy as expected, there has been an upturn in traffic recently that seems to have justified the revival. While it was not on grain when I saw it, it was leading the hottest eastbound train on the CN Flint Sub, Q148. With temps in the teens and winds comparable, the cold was definitely biting at my hands while the stack train flew by, but seeing a barn back from the brink, is definitely worth the cold fingers.
