The Old Smithy was originally a Blacksmiths Shop on the right and a Joiners Shop on the left in the Village of Westerdale. (Same name as the dale)

Westerdale is a village, civil parish and dale within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, England

For the walking enthusiasts the Esk Valley trail (a fish on the signs) traverses the outskirts of the village.

The remains of this 'standing cross', probably dating from the 13th century, sits on the Green of the small Oxfordshire village of Woodeaton. Behind it can be seen the parish church of Holy Rood, itself of early 11th century origins.

Delightful though it is to see life again in trees and fields, it is - as can be seen here - still only that first growth of fresh, lurid green (and too much of it). Also, grass when cut now turns a rather sickly yellow. In another month we should see a more mature appearance in the English countryside.

Behind Penmon Priory, Anglesey there's an old graveyard. An ancient stone Celtic cross stands proudly, surrounded by moss-covered tombstones. The cross, decked out with intricate carvings, sits on a stone pedestal amidst vibrant green ferns and tall grass. The background is a mix of trees and cloudy skies, adding to the chill, slightly spooky vibe.

This stone cross at the centre of the small village of East Hagbourne is one of relatively few such English village crosses surviving from the medieval period (10-16thC). Standing crosses served a variety of purposes, such as places of preaching, announcements, and penance, and could also define boundaries and rights of sanctuary. This particular cross has lost its cross-head - most likely destroyed by iconoclasts in the 16th and 17th centuries - since replaced by a 17th century sundial. Unusual for its good condition but also its multi-stepped, rectangular base, this cross has Historic England Grade II* protection.

In the background is St Andrews Church, serving both East and West Hagbourne. If visiting be sure to notice the large metal 'sanctuary knocker' on its sturdy main door. Under medieval English common law, use of such a knocker supposedly afforded the right of asylum within the church.

I.M.F.Z.S. (Jacob Murre Förster zu Schöna)

1653

D.XI OCTOB. (Den 11. Oktober)

Old Town.

- The " Ancient Wall " of A Coruña, dates from XIV century and, currently, some important pieces are preserved. In it, there are three gates: S. Miguel, O Cravo and Da Cruz; the latter is the one in the picture.

Built between the 16 th. and 18 th. centuries, until not long age, it opened directly in the sea, on a small beach. Today, everything has been covered with cement and a private sports club has been built. (¡!).
