Not liked by the average person but some species of blow fly can help forensic scientise pin down the time of death of a body by looking at the size of the maggots. Some species can live for several months or even a year if overwintering. Here you can see the extended mouth part called the pseudo trachea and at the end what looks a bit like a mop is a device that consist of many tubes. Through these tubes the fly will gulp its stomach contents over the food to help digest and turn the food into a liquid to be swallowed up. Which reminds me where did I put my last large slice of Victoria Sponge as I'm very hungry now !

It’s such a thrill to view the antics of young Western Grebe chicks as they frolic in the water, then scurry safely back under their mother’s wings to ride in comfort, waiting for their next meal. In this photo, one of the two chicks currently riding on Mom’s back eyes something that may be delicious.
Setting off crisp black-and-white plumage with a yellow bill and red eye, the slender Western Grebe is an elegant presence on lakes and ocean coasts of western North America. Along with its close relative, the Clark’s Grebe, it’s renowned for a ballet-like courtship display in which male and female “run” across the water in synchrony, their long necks curved in an S-shape. These water birds rarely come ashore, instead taking long dives to catch fish and other aquatic animals.
Western and Clark’s Grebes were considered the same species until 1985, after scientists learned that the two species rarely interbreed (despite sometimes living on the same lakes), make different calls, and have substantial DNA differences.
Male Western Grebes generally have longer and thicker bills than females. The difference may permit males and females to feed on different-sized prey, reducing food competition between the sexes.
Western Grebe plumage is very dense and waterproof. In the nineteenth century the birds were hunted and their hides used to make coats, capes, and hats that cost as much as luxury items made from mammal pelts. In some areas, grebe populations crashed or even disappeared altogether. In time, the garments went out of fashion, sparing this species (and Clark’s Grebe) further losses.
Western Grebes, along with other grebe species, often swallow their own feathers as they preen. These feathers wind up lining the stomach, where they may help protect against punctures by sharp fish bones. They periodically regurgitate pellets containing the feathers along with bones and other indigestible material.
The oldest recorded Western Grebe was a female and at least 11 years old when she was found in Minnesota, where she had been banded.

This sweet little rabbit let me get close enough to wriggle through the grass on my stomach and use my 105 lens at the weekend. It looked so wistful gazing towards the fence!

“to love life, to love it even
when you have no stomach for it
and everything you've held dear
crumbles like burnt paper in your hands,
your throat filled with the silt of it.
When grief sits with you, its tropical heat
thickening the air, heavy as water
more fit for gills than lungs;
when grief weights you like your own flesh
only more of it, an obesity of grief,
you think, How can a body withstand this?
Then you hold life like a face
between your palms, a plain face,
no charming smile, no violet eyes,
and you say, yes, I will take you
I will love you, again.”

The Indian pangolin, thick-tailed pangolin, or scaly anteater (Manis crassicaudata) is a pangolin found on the Indian subcontinent. It is not common anywhere in its range. Like other pangolins, it has large, overlapping scales on its body which act as armour. It can also curl itself into a ball as self-defence against predators such as the tiger. The colour of its scales varies depending on the colour of the earth in its surroundings.
It is an insectivore, feeding on ants and termites, digging them out of mounds and logs using its long claws, which are as long as its fore limbs. It is nocturnal and rests in deep burrows during the day.
The Indian pangolin is threatened by hunting for its meat and for various body parts used in traditional medicine.
The Indian pangolin is a solitary, shy, slow-moving, nocturnal mammal. It is about 84–122 centimetres (33–48 in) long from head to tail, the tail usually being 33–47 cm long, and weighs 10–16 kg. Females are generally smaller than the males and have one pair of mammae. The pangolin possesses a cone-shaped head with small, dark eyes, and a long muzzle with a nose pad similar in color, or darker than, its pinkish-brown skin. It has powerful limbs, tipped with sharp, clawed digits. It is an almost exclusive insectivore and principally subsists on ants and termites, which it catches with a specially adapted long, sticky tongue. The pangolin has no teeth, but has strong stomach muscles to aid in digestion. The most noticeable characteristic of the pangolin is its massive, scaled armour, which covers its upper face and its whole body with the exception of the belly and the inside of the legs. These protective scales are rigid and made of keratin. It has 160–200 scales in total, about 40–46% of which are located on the tail. Scales can be 6.5–7 cm long, 8.5 cm wide, and weigh 7–10 grams. The skin and scales make up about one-fourth to one-third of the total body mass of this species.
The Indian pangolin has been recorded from various forest types, including Sri Lankan rainforest and plains to middle hill levels. The animal can be found in grasslands and secondary forests, and is well adapted to desert regions as it is believed to have a tolerance to dry areas, but prefers more barren, hilly regions. This pangolin species may also sometimes reach high elevations, and has been sighted in Sri Lanka at 1100 meters and in the Nilgiri mountains in India at 2300 meters. It prefers soft and semi-sandy soil conditions suitable for digging burrows.
Pangolin burrows fall into one of two categories: feeding and living burrows. Feeding burrows are smaller than living burrows (though their sizes vary depending on the abundance of prey) and are created more frequently during the spring, when there is a greater availability of prey. Living burrows are wider, deeper, and more circular, and are occupied for a longer time than feeding burrows, as they are mainly used to sleep and rest during the day. After a few months, the pangolin abandons the burrow and digs a new one close to a food source. However, it is not uncommon for the pangolin to shift back to an old burrow.
Unlike its African counterpart, the Indian pangolin does not climb trees, but it does value the presence of trees, herbs, and shrubs in its habitat because it is easier to dig burrows around them. Features that promote an abundance of ants and termites (grasses, bare grounds, bases of trees, shrubs, roots, leaf litter, fallen logs and elephant feces) are often present in pangolin habitats.
Few details are known about the breeding behaviour of the Indian pangolin. During the animal's mating period, females and males may share the same burrow and show some diurnal activities. Males have testes in a fold of the skin located in their groin areas. The female's embryo develops in one of the uterine horns. The gestation period lasts 65–70 days; the placenta is diffuse and not deciduate. Usually, a single young is born, but twins have been reported in this species. The young weigh 235–400 g at birth and measure roughly 30 cm. The newborn animals have open eyes, and soft scales with protruding hairs between them. The mother pangolin carries her young on her tail. When the mother and young are disturbed, the young pangolin is held against its mother's belly and protected by the mother's tail.
After lapping water, the Gila monster would lift his head. I assume, allowing water to gravitate to his stomach.

The Common Nighthawk’s folk name is “goatsucker." This refers to the myth that this bird, with its large mouth, actually suckled goats.
Analyses of stomach contents have revealed a single bird eating upwards of 500 mosquitoes in a single day.
To a Haggis
All hail your honest rounded face,
Great chieftain of the pudding race;
Above them all you take your place,
Beef, tripe, or lamb:
You're worthy of a grace
As long as my arm.
The groaning trencher there you fill,
Your sides are like a distant hill
Your pin would help to mend a mill,
In time of need,
While through your pores the dews distil,
Like amber bead.
His knife the rustic goodman wipes,
To cut you through with all his might,
Revealing your gushing entrails bright,
Like any ditch;
And then, what a glorious sight,
Warm, welcome, rich.
Then plate for plate they stretch and strive,
Devil take the hindmost, on they drive,
Till all the bloated stomachs by and by,
Are tight as drums.
The rustic goodman with a sigh,
His thanks he hums.
Let them that o'er his French ragout,
Or hotchpotch fit only for a sow,
Or fricassee that'll make you spew,
And with no wonder;
Look down with sneering scornful view,
On such a dinner.
Poor devil, see him eat his trash,
As feckless as a withered rush,
His spindly legs and good whip-lash,
His little feet
Through floods or over fields to dash,
O how unfit.
But, mark the rustic, haggis-fed;
The trembling earth resounds his tread,
Grasp in his ample hands a flail
He'll make it whistle,
Stout legs and arms that never fail,
Proud as the thistle.
You powers that make mankind your care,
And dish them out their bill of fare.
Old Scotland wants no stinking ware,
That slops in dishes;
But if you grant her grateful prayer,
Give her a haggis.
Unfortunately, the pollen that the bees collect alongside the nectar doesn't fit in their stomachs. Fortunately, the bee has the perfect collecting apparatus on its legs. When it emerges from a flower, it simply sweeps it up and tucks it into a spot on its hind leg. To prevent it from falling out, it sticks it together with a bit of nectar. Because it looks as if it's wearing baggy pants, these pollen clumps are called "pollen pants."

Red and pink Valerian, (Centranthus ruber) the cousin of the herb, and also known as kiss-me-quick, fox's brush, devil's beard or Jupiter's beard, reseeds wonderfully, and I have it all over my place. Here it is surrounded by a lime green patch of flowering Spurge, or Euphorbia characias, and the nice patch of clover. Good for the soul, if not for the stomach.

There is no time talking about the good feelings you have in your head or stomach when you successful enter a decayed location/building. In a hurry and sometimes with a higher heart rate I hunt for good compositions. In this room I walked by on my first 'watch around the corner' because I ordinary prefer the rooms with more mess, chaos and decay. After a few minutes, waiting for another shot I was taking, I decided to go back. So here my imagination started who had a good time hanging out in this chair. I imagine it must be people from 'a high class', or living the good life that could afford a room like this. While taking pictures in other rooms I was still thinking about this room...it had something specials...

What if
I took your word for it?
Would I regret it?
What if
I didn't stay wondering
I kept all my composure
Act like I saw it coming?
What if
I never once asked you
I'd never make you promise
What if
It felt like somebody went and
Punched me in the stomach?
What if?
What if?
What if
I trusted a stranger
With all of my thoughts all my feelings
My pain and my anger?
And what if
Instead of
Avoiding the matter
I spilled all my guts out
Would that have been better?
What if?
What if?
What if
I gave you
The space that
You needed
If all of
The messages sent
Were delеted?
If I trusted
You'd come back
Whеn you felt
So ready
Instead I
Reacted
Made everything heavy

Another from that coolest of cool beaches: Motukiekie, South Island, New Zealand. In case you missed the blog entry:
I am surrounded by 12-legged beasts who digest their prey by extruding their stomachs through their mouths. The tide is rising quickly and my only escape route is disappearing before my eyes as the water gurgles higher and higher. Am I worried though? Just the opposite. As I stare at those carnivorous creatures and the water lapping at my feet I think “This is fun.”
It’s my second visit to Motukiekie Beach in as many weeks but this time I have preparedness on my side. I first stumbled across Motukiekie in an “off-the-beaten-path” guidebook (how’s that for an oxymoron?) sent to me by a friend. The book described Motukiekie in flowery prose as the “South Island’s MOST DRAMATIC…interesting, photogenic, and WOW…bit of walkable coast!!!!!” It also mentioned the tide: “If it ain’t low, you can’t go!!” But tides mean something different to the casual beach goer than to a seascape photographer, so I knew I needed to get the lowdown on this place for myself.

"Who'll make his mark?" the Captain cried
"To the Devil, drink a toast"
We'll glut the hold with cups of gold
And we'll feed the sea with ghosts
I see your hunger for a fortune
Could be better served beneath my flag
If you've the stomach for a broadside
Come aboard, my pretty boys
I will take you and make you
Everything you've ever dreamed
"Make fast the guns, tonight we sail
When the high tide floods the bay
Cut free the lines and square the yards
Get the black flag stowed away
The Turk, the Arab and the Spaniard
Will soon have pennies on their eyes
And any other laden fancy
We will take her by surprise
I will take you, make you
Everything you've ever dreamed"
Six days off the Cuban coast when a sail ahead, they spied
"A galleon of the treasure fleet," the mizzen lookout cried
"Closer to the wind, my boys," the mad-eyed Captain roared
"For every man that's alive tonight will be hauling gold aboard"
"Spare us," the galleon begged, but mercy's face had fled
Blood ran from the screaming souls the cutlass harvested
Driven to the quarter deck, the last survivor fell
"She's ours, my boys!" the Captain grinned
And no one left to tell
The Captain rose from a silk divan with a pistol in his fist
And shot the lock from an iron box, and a blood-red ruby kissed
"I give you jewelry of turquoise, a crucifix of solid gold
One hundred thousand silver pieces, it is just as I foretold
You, you see there before you
Everything you've ever dreamed"
Anchored in an indigo moonlit bay
Gold-eyed 'round fires the sea thieves lay
Morning, white shells and a pipe of clay
As the wind filled their footprints
They were far, far away
Our sails swell full as we brave all seas
On a westward wind to live as we please
With the wicked wild-eyed woman of Portobello town
Where we've been told that a purse of gold
Buys any man a crown
They will serve you and clothe you
Exchange your rags for the velvet coats of kings
"Who'll drink a toast with me?
I give you liberty
This town is ours tonight!"
"Landlord wine, make it the finest
Make it a cup for a sea dog's thirst
Two long years of bones and beaches
Fever and leaches did their worst
So fill the night with paradise
Bring me peach and peacock 'til I burst
But first, I want a soft touch in the right place
I wanna feel like a king tonight
Ten on the black to beat the Frenchman
Back you dogs, give them room to turn
Now open wide sweet Heaven's gate
Tonight were gonna see if Heaven burns
Ooh, see how she burns, oh, see burn
I want an angel on a gold chain
And I'll ride her to the stars
It's the last time for a long, long time
Come the daybreak, we embark
On the flood of the morning tide
Once more the ocean cried"
"This company will return one day
Though we feel your tears, it's the price we pay
For there's prizes to be taken and glory to be found
Cut free the chains, make fast your souls
We are El dorado-bound
I will take you for always, forever, together
Until Hell calls our names"
"Who'll drink a toast with me
To the Devil and the deep blue sea?
Gold drives a man to dream"
This swing ride(name unknown to me, i didn`t bother to look) spins the chairs around at a pretty quick clip and if i sat in one it would be vomit time for me. As it was though the people enjoyed it screaming their heads off. (This festival is in a parking lot behind the Tri County Flea Market along Hempstead Tpke, the surrounding streetlights and buildings were unavoidable.) Unlike the fair at the Nassau Coliseum, which i got kicked out of a couple years back i was allowed to walk around shooting away here. Heck, one of the security guards even had a sense of humor! ;)

WAY TO A MAN'S HEART IS THROUGH HIS STOMACH- "The evolution of this saying appears to be almost as indirect as the route to a man's heart. The American statesman John Adams wrote in a letter (1814), 'The shortest road to men's hearts is down their throats,' and some years later Richard Ford's 'A Handbook for Travellers in Spain' (1845) advised, 'The way to many an honest heart lies through the belly.' A few years later, Miss Mulock observed in 'John Halifax, Gentleman' (1857) that the stomach was the way to an Englishman's heart. Fifteen years after that, the writer Fanny Fern broadened the idea to include all men in 'Willis Parton' (c. 1872), rendering the saying in its current form." From "Wise Words and Wives' Tales: The Origins, Meanings and Time-Honored Wisdom of Proverbs and Folk Sayings Olde and New" by Stuart Flexner and Doris Flexner

Flies and some other insects are in the habit of bringing back the partially digested food from the stomach to the mouth in the form of a bubble and swallowing it again. This is called "regurgitation". Sometimes the bubble looks very transparent and you can see the refraction of the legs inside the drop.

Mother sea otters swimming on their backs while holding their pup on their stomachs are one of the cutest things on earth, and this is the cutest image I have of them. The mother was actually licking the pup and cleaning the fur on its face, but it made for a very tender moment.
I was hesitant to post this image because to my great dismay it is not tack sharp, but ultimately I love the image so much that I had to share it anyway.
