Made for the Hoop Up! Stitch & Send Swap. Jill's theme was "words plus", meaning words plus a little something extra. I decided on some Scandinavian Stitching-inspired birds.
Another Subversive Cross Stitch - inspired sampler. Pieced together from a very pretty Earth Threads sampler, on Sugar Maple Fabrics hand-dyed Lugana, with Vikki Clayton silks. A Christmas present for my hubby :)

I don't often frame work these days but as this is a first I think I'll get it framed - this frame is from picnik for display here.
Mixed media, 8 X 9 1/2 inches. Free-motion machine stitch. Inspired by medusa jellyfish.
Vintage book page has the title, Starfishes, Sea Urchins and their Kin and sheet music has the direction, March-like.
The teal green fabric, sea shells and black rocks hint at the jellyfish's oceanic origins and the raw frayed edges of the quilt mimic the untamed nature of the sea.

This is from a picture I worked. The holbein stitches are called blackwork even though they're worked in coloured threads, there are gold sequins and gold thread for the stems and the outline edges of the butterfly wings. The body, leaves and flowers are edged in coral stitch. Inspired by my garden.

I made this dress entirely without a pattern out of recycled t-shirts. It's embellished with applique and reverse applique, and three different decorative stitches.
10 1/2 X 12 inches. Fabric, paint, hand & machine stitching. Inspired by the blue grosbeak & indigo bunting.
I found this great Time Life cookbook about Russian food and culture, and of course I snapped it up for the cover!
Embroidered stem and leaves, accompanied by 'love', stitched on my machine. Bag is a lightweight canvas, lined with unbleached muslin, and the handles are thick 100% cotton. The fabric at the top is Kaufman and is covered in decorative stitching...

Modifications: I made a picot edge, which, I think, gives lovely results but was a lot of work (I sewed the last row of knit stitches, stitch by stitch, inspired by Fiber Fool's comparison of picot bind offs.) It looks great though (IMHO), and is very stretchy indeed!
These socks are intended as a (late) Mother's Day gift to my mom. I hope she likes them!
I really, really loved the yarn. Colinette Jitterbug feels fabulous; very stretchy and sproingy (is that a correct word?). I'm a very tight knitter and the resulting fabric is really thick and solid; I think it feels great. I will definitely use this yarn again. I also think that this semi-solid colorway is beautiful, especially with this particular pattern.
The Anastasia pattern was a lot of fun. Quite mindless and easy, and still producing very interesting results. Next time -- if I'd ever try this pattern again, which I doubt, not because I don't like the pattern but because I like variety -- I would probably do it over 64 instead of 60 stitches and would double the number of spirals (i.e. 4 stockinette stitches, 4 spiral stitches, repeat 8 times).
Inspired by PlanetJune pattern "Rolling Waves Blanket" as well as the post stitch rib stitch pattern (relief stitch).
For the edging I used the linked triple crochet stitch from the "Solid Stripes Bag" pattern (also by PlanetJune).
I wanted it to be multi-colour and give my smartphone not only protection from scratching but also from falling.

I made this dress entirely without a pattern out of recycled t-shirts. It's embellished with applique and reverse applique, and three different decorative stitches.
If I had to choose one word to describe this bangle it'd be challenge. Not that it was a challenge to make, but because it is the result of two different challenges.
First, the idea to wrap this wooden bangle base with recycled sari ribbon came from my participating in B'Sue's sari ribbon blog party many months ago. After wrapping it, I did have any ideas for embellishment that felt good enough. Scrapped the idea to use copper wire e.g. Thought vaguely about embroidery, but in the end it just sat there in a UFO/project inspiration tray for ages.
Then came 2012 and I had signed up for the Take a Stitch Tuesday challenge. This week's stitch is one of my favourites: feather stitch. First week it was fly stitch. Inspired by that I made this vine using DMC mouliné cotton floss for the feather stitch vine and hand-dyed flower thread (by Tentakulum) for the fly stitch flowers.
Maybe I should've used another hue of green or used flower thread instead of DMC -- and it's far from the prettiest feather stitches I've ever made, but I still think it looks ok. And it felt great to finally finish this project!

Experiments based on natural forms. Left- plaster cast of pineapple, threads dried into it. Right- PVA glue with ink, threads, and stitch inspired by red cabbage.

I can post this now that it has safely arrived in the UK! It's not shown in this photo, but I added hand stitching to each leaf and also a bead to the top of the ribbon where it joins the flag. All the fabric pieces are fused down and hand stitched. Inspired by Kayte Terry's book "Appliqué your way : 35 pretty sewing projects and patterns."
