This forest is located in the middle of the National Park of Casentino Forests Arezzo (Tuscany).
It is famous because it was a forest full of bandits who robbed the travelers.
It was given to San Francesco by Count Orlando of Chiusi della Verna.
San Francesco built a famous sanctuary, today a place of pilgrimage.
It seems that in this place the saint received the stigmata and converted many bandits in the woods...

Rade Serbedzija was born in Croatia in 1946. Graduated from the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb. Still a student, he started to play the leading roles in films and theater productions. He is remembered as an outstanding Peer Gynt, Don Juan, Georgij, Melkior, Oedipus, Hamlet, Leon and Richard III. He wrote and published four books of poetry and released four albums, as well as directed 12 plays (Balade Petrice Kerempuha, Kazu da je sova nekad bila pekareva kci, Judita, Hrvatski slavuj...). He shot more than seventy films (Rdece klasje (1970), Zadah tela (1983), Hajka (1977), Vecernja zvona (1986), Bravo maestro (1978), Variola Vera (1982), Una (1984), Usijanje (1979), Life Is Beautiful (1985), Cyclops (1982), Povratak (1979), Horvatov izbor (1985), Dreaming the Rose (1986), Kontesa Dora (1993)...), and starred in leading roles of several TV-series (Sam covjek, U registraturi (1974), Prosjaci i sinovi (1971), Bombaski proces (1977), Nikola Tesla (1977), Putovanje u Vucjak (1986)...). He joined Vanessa Redgrave to found a theater that produced plays such as Brecht in exile, Liberation of Skopje, Smoke, Opera Sarajevo. He took part in many charity and peace initiatives.
After a world famous film Before the Rain (1994) where he played the leading role, he was cast in films by prominent directors of the world (P. Noyce, J. Woo, S. Kubrick, F. Rossi...), in films such as The Saint (1997) (P. Noyce), The Truce (1997) (F. Rossi), Prague Duet (1998), Broken English (1996), Eyes Wide Shut (1999) (S. Kubrick), Polish Wedding (1998), Stigmata (1999), Mighty Joe Young (1998), Il dolce rumore della vita (1999), Open Sea (1998), Mission: Impossible II (2000), Space Cowboys (2000), Snatch (2000), and in South Pacific (2001), Hermano (2007), Quicksand (2003). He starred alongside Val Kilmer, Elisabeth Shue, John Turturro, Tom Cruise, Glenn Close. He lives in London.
Serenity of the Storm was inspired by the pose: Stigmata Martyr from By My Mannequin?. As soon as I saw the pose, I knew it had lots of potential! I saw myself in the middle of a storm, arched and letting myself get soaked by the rain and listening to the rumble of thunder all around me; just absorbing that chaotic, beautiful energy of the storm. I watched as the storm clouds began rolling in, distant thunder booming and steadily getting louder and louder. It was sure to be a good one! I kicked off my shoes and walked straight out to the field and laid out, staring up at the darkening sky. With a boom of thunder and flash of lightning, the sky suddenly opened up and I was immediately drenched by the downpour. I closed my eyes and arched up my back almost as if in offering. Gods, this was bliss. The chaos and power behind the storm was its own brand of magic. There was a special kind of serenity of the storm and I was living for it.

Standing directly above this little flower, I pointed my macro lens downward, capturing its silky petals and its crimson stamens.
Saffron, the most expensive spice in the world, is made from the stigma of this little flower. Each flower only produces three stigmata and they are picked by hand, a labor intensive process. It takes approximately 75,000 individual stigmas to produce just one pound of saffron!

Monarch Butterfly
Scientific Name: Nymphalidae Danainae
Description: The monarch is one of Manitoba's largest butterflies, with a wingspan of up to 100 mm. The body of the butterfly is black with some white spots. The upper surfaces of the wings are orange with black veining. The wing margins are black with white spots. Males can be distinguished from the females by a black patch on their hind wings, called a stigmata. Underneath, the wings are a paler orange, almost beige, with the same black veining and borders. The caterpillar (larva) of monarchs is boldly patterned, too, with black, white and yellow banding.
Distribution: Monarchs occur throughout North America south of the boreal forest zone, in Central America and northern South America. (It has recently been determined that the South American monarch and those found on Jamaica and Hispaniola are separate species, D. erippus and D. cleophile, respectively. Their distributions are not shown on this map.) Monarchs have been introduced to the Hawaiian Islands and to Australia, and are thought to be spreading around to other islands in the Pacific ocean on their own. There are 3 separate populations in continental North America: one east of the Rocky Mountains, another west of the Rockies, and a third, non-migratory population in Florida and Georgia. In Manitoba, they occur in the southwestern 1/3 of the province up to the edge of the boreal forest.
Habitat: Just about anywhere you can find milkweed plants (Genus: Asclepias) and open meadows, you can find monarch butterflies. They frequent prairies, meadows and wetlands, but avoid thick forests. Food for the caterpillars, milkweed plants, and for the adults, flower nectar, are found mainly in grasslands and meadows in Manitoba, so that's where monarchs tend to be.
Food: Food for adult monarch butterflies consists mainly of flower nectar. They fuel their great travels and reproductive efforts by sipping this sugary solution from obliging plants. The plants are, of course, taking advantage of the monarchs and other insects to do the job of pollination. Most of their favourites fall within the Asteraceae family of plants, including such things as fleabanes (Erigeron spp.), asters (Aster spp.), sunflowers (Helianthus spp.) and blazingstars (Liatris spp.), but they are not really that selective when it comes to flower nectar. Any flower that has available nectar could be visited by a monarch.

„... Hat das Privilegiert sein etwas mit den finanziellen Möglichkeiten zu tun? Oder sollten nicht eher die inneren Fähigkeiten ausschlaggebend sein? Man hat mich roh und primitiv genannt und doch habe ich mich dabei wie einer meiner Vorfahren in den Höhlen von Lascaux gefühlt. Ich habe Menschen kennen gelernt, die mit dem Stigmata leben müssen, ein Legastheniker zu sein. Und die für mich kreativer und inspirierender sind als mancher Akademiker, der sich erdreistet, Kreativität tatsächlich kritisieren zu wollen... Kreativität darf sich in meinen Augen keinem Regelwerk unterwerfen. Der Wunsch, zu gestalten, schlummert in jedem von uns. Dafür braucht es kein Studium. Nein, bei diesem Gedanken will ich nicht mit meinem Kopf durch die Wand gehen. Ich kann verstehen, dass sich manche an die hohen Hürden klammern, um den Zugang zu begrenzen. In den Köpfen mancher darf es eben nicht nur einen Kreis geben. Sondern da muss eine Differenzierung stattfinden. Einen kleinen, elitären Kreis, der über allen anderen schwebt... Eine Chancengleichheit sehe ich nicht. Was ich in den letzten Jahren immer mehr realisiere: Der goldene Löffel im Mund entscheidet wieder mehr den je bereits bei der Geburt, wie frei der Weg ins Leben tatsächlich ist. Nicht der Verstand und das Wissen erschließen Freiräume, sondern der finanzielle Hintergrund. Wir leben im Jahr 2022 und nähern uns Bildungstechnisch dem 19. Jahrhundert an... Hinter der futuristischen Fassade lauert die Vergangenheit.“

I saw this sculpture on a bench in front of Christchurch Cathedral, Dublin. A homeless, you might think, but when you come closer, you will see the stigmata on his feet.

Last Supper in the refectory, considered his best work.
A Moment of Silent Contemplation.
The refectory of Santa Croce strikes even the most hasty visitors with its impressive frescoed wall. The feeling of awe is immediate: as soon as you cross the threshold you feel transported to a myriad of figures and cartouches painted on the wall in front of you. The symbolism of this Franciscan cenacolo is definitely one of the most fascinating ones in Florence. Once looking closely at the fresco you will distinguish six different scenes:
an imposing Crucifixion,
the Last Supper,
St. Benedict’s retreat,
Jesus dining at the Pharisees,
St. Francis receiving the stigmata and
a history of St. Louis of Toulouse.
One of Giotto’s most talented followers, Taddeo Gaddi dedicated thirty passionate years to the decoration of this refectory, between 1334 and 1366. The thing that above all leaves you speechless, even before you are able to locate the Last Supper, is a kind of large "Christmas tree" loaded by characters and inscriptions.
