Yen Kong, BME Research Fellow, feeds fibroblast cells different proteins to transform them into new heart muscle cells in the Lurie Biomedical Engineering Building on February 7, 2014.
Kong, a member of the Cell Signaling in Engineered Tissues (CSET) lab that Putnam heads, developed a research program to see if fibroblasts, a cell type common in scar tissue, could be transformed into heart muscle cells.
By using this method of stem cell research, Kong and Putnam hope to transform scar tissue from heart attacks into new heart muscle.

Kong, a member of the Cell Signaling in Engineered Tissues (CSET) lab that Putnam heads, developed a research program to see if fibroblasts, a cell type common in scar tissue, could be transformed into heart muscle cells.

One of the items I made sure to monitor, after my stem cell transplant, was to adjust my diet. I didn’t eat badly before. I adjusted so that fewer things would have an adverse affect on my health. Now, I’m mostly vegetarian, for instance. I do feel better in general, cleaner. I need to monitor what I ingest.
There are a few meds I need to continue to take.
Not for MS though :-)

Joe (#1 on the left) credits his wonderful improvement on his positive attitude in addition to Vescell adult stem cell therapy that he received in Thailand. His ejection fraction has gone up from 15% to 40% since his stem cell treatment.
