The steering wheels were rigid and mounted on non-collapsible steering columns. This arrangement increased the risk of impaling the driver in case of a severe crash. The first collapsible steering column was invented in 1934 but was never successfully marketed. By 1956, Ford came out with a safety steering wheel that was set high above the post with spokes that would flex, but the column was still rigid.

This is the steering wheel from the Naval steam frigate "Kong Sverre"
Four men might be needed to keep the 3500 tons frigate on a steady course.
I went to 50th Annual MSRA Columbus Nebraska Rod Run on Saturday, May 25th; hosted by Midwest Street Rod Association - East Central Chapter (MSRA). I photo'd some very interested old vehicles, but have to share this very beautiful 1959 Chevrolet Impala's steering wheel.
The weather was incredibly nice.
I plan to add some more from time to time. ;-)

My Farmall Cub tractor is stored on the edge of the woods. Maybe I will get it running this summer....

Hello everyone, and Happy Easter! 🐣
I’m excited to introduce my newest design: the RT5 Turbo — one of my favorite hot hatch models I’ve created so far. This model is an alternative build for the 10295 official set, made entirely from the parts included in that set.
The model includes many functional and detailed features:
• Opening doors
• Opening hood
• Rear engine cover
• Working steering connected to the steering wheel
• Detailed engine bay
• Detailed interior
Built at approximately 1:13 scale, it matches the scale of the official set nicely and looks great displayed alongside it.
Hope you like it, thanks for looking!

This spider apparently got into my car while I was parked under a tree with the windows cracked. It jumped onto the steering wheel while I was driving, giving me a bit of a start. I recovered and pulled over to capture it for a photo session later. Happy 27th of Arachtober!
