I've wanted to do the Ennerdale Horseshoe ever since my dear old Dad told me he failed on it twice for many years now. I'd been keeping an eye the forecast on any free weekends, but it wasn't until this one that the stars finally aligned. A last minute hotel room booked, and timings worked out. Of course I wanted to be at the top of the first hill by dawn. 12:15 alarm call? Oh, alright. Sleep? None. Never mind!

I'd planned my route around the Ennerdale fell race one. But then it seemed a shame to miss out the extra tops so they got done as well. Starling Dodd? OK. Great Gable? Yep! Steeple? It's only 10 minutes each way.

Surprisingly, for one of my days out it all went remarkably smoothly. Except on Pillar I realised that faffing with photos meant I was going to be hard pushed to make it back for hotel check-in... Oh. Better walk a little faster. Think I averaged about 4mph for the last 9 miles 😅 Did I make it? Yep! Arrived at the hotel at 21:59... 😁

I'll catch up with you all in a bit! Need sleep.

P.s. I didn't sprain my ankle this time! Quite possibly the best day out on the the hill I've ever done.

On the pond in the Aberford park you can see young swans who learn to fly. But they do not fly so much as run on the water, flapping their wings and scaring geese on its way...

World athletics - USA athlete Jager ultimately won bronze - terrific race. The press boys certainly earned their passes with the positions they adopted.

...or snow in the neck

well yes, I like snow to take some photographs, but it´s enough now. This winter remainds me of my childhood, the good old days with weeks of cold and snow.
