El steampunk fue, en sus inicios, un subgénero literario nacido dentro de la ciencia ficción especulativa que surgió durante la década de 1980 de la mano de escritores conocidos por sus trabajos ciberpunk.1 A día de hoy, este subgénero ha madurado hasta convertirse en un movimiento artístico y sociocultural y no tan solo literario.2 El steampunk se desenvuelve en una ambientación donde la tecnología a vapor sigue siendo la predominante y por lo general localizada en Inglaterra durante la época victoriana, donde no es extraño encontrar elementos comunes de la ciencia ficción o la fantasía.
Las obras de temática steampunk a menudo muestran tecnologías anacrónicas o invenciones futuristas imaginadas por los visionarios de su época, todas ellas vistas desde la perspectiva victoriana en la cultura, el arte, la moda e incluso la arquitectura.
El steampunk se inspira principalmente en los trabajos de H. G. Wells y Julio Verne y del imaginario encontrado en sus obras,3 por lo que, al igual que el dieselpunk, este subgénero se puede englobar dentro del movimiento retrofuturista, el género de las ucronías y la ficción especulativa, pero su tendencia a incorporar elementos fantásticos y el carácter más desenfadado y utópico de sus tramas lo alejan tanto del dieselpunk como del cyberpunk.

Aparece como corriente literaria de carácter fantástico y futurista ligada a la aparición de la máquina de vapor y la revolución industrial del s.XIX. Todos los años se celebra en una antigua estación minera en Fonds-de-Gras (Luxemburgo) una exposición de antiguas máquinas de ferrocarril a vapor y familias enteras vienen ataviadas con trajes de época, adornados con artilugios de todo tipo.

"Macro Mondays" " Contraption"
A Steampunk diving helmet
of 1 1/2" that I added a gear and a seahorse.
Steampunk is a very popular cultural movement in this part of the world. The annual Steam Festival in Sheffield, Tasmania attests to that. Steampunk utilises the technology of the steam era to create works of art. In this case a superb leather sculpture representing the extinct Tasmanian Tiger (Thylacine) made an appearance at the Tasmanian Craft Fair 2025.
Sunday afternoon, all a bit lazy. So what to do??? Whip out an old top hat, some steampunk goggles and the smoke machine, that's what! Cornered my oldest son, AJ, to be a model for a few minutes and this was the result.
Strobist info: One Godox AD 200 camera right in a 60cm square softbox with grid on. 2nd Godox AD200 directly behind subject in a small silver reflector to light up smoke. Both triggered by wireless remote.

This theme Mask is the reality of the world, we are considered persons, or persona, or actor. We all have a mask at least one, some change masks daily and often in a day. Here the steampunk mask is a one eyed mask to marry mechanic with human, the android, the keys are choices of three to unlock the clues we face daily in this world, the gyro is to keep a level mind, a level plan, and always upright with the horizon, the crystal ball is the illusion that inverts all but it is all set on black and white, to always remind us it is black and white, digital, yes or no, and no gray world for me.
