A view of the historic Paramount Theatre and its next door neighbor, the State Theatre, on the east side of the 700 block of Congress Ave. in downtown Austin.

The Paramount, which was the focus of yesterday's post, opened in 1915, Today it continues as a live performance and movie theater venue, and is one of only 20 theaters left in the entire country that is over 100 years old and still in use as a venue.

Next door to the Paramount is the Art Deco-style State Theatre which opened on Christmas Day 1935 with “The Bride Comes Home”, a comedy with Claudette Colbert and Fred MacMurray. The theater was a conversion of an existing building and was designed by architect W. Scott Dunne. It was the first theater in Austin built specifically to show motion pictures.

Since 2000 both the Paramount and State theaters have been jointly operated under the Austin Theatre Alliance (ATA). The ATA produces the Moontower Comedy Festival, one of the largest comedy festivals in the nation; hosts the star-studded world premieres of SXSW, Austin Film Festival, and beyond. And the State Theatre is now officially known as the Stateside at the Paramount Theatre.

With a population of just over one million residents, Austin is the 10th largest city in the United States. The Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos Metropolitan Area, now with a population of 2.3M, also is the fastest growing large metropolitan area in the country having added more than 579,000 residents since 2010.

The Paramount opened in 1915 as the Majestic Theatre, and was renamed the Paramount Theatre in 1930. The classical revival style structure was designed by architect John Eberson and has a seating capacity of 1,270.

Over the years the Paramount has played host to a wide variety of acts ranging from vaudeville, musicals, legitimate theater, and movies. Today it continues as a live performance and movie theater venue, and is one of only 20 theaters left in the entire country that is over 100 years old and still in use as a venue.

The historic building was designed by architect John Eberson in the classical revival style, and has a seating capacity of 1,270. The Paramount was added to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1976, and was listed for a second time on the NRHP two years later as a significant property in the Congress Avenue Historic District.

The KeyBank State Theatre is a theater located at 1519 Euclid Avenue in downtown Cleveland, Ohio.[1] It is one of the theaters that make up Playhouse Square. It was designed by the noted theater architect Thomas W. Lamb and was built in 1921 by Marcus Loew to be the flagship of the Ohio branch of the Loew's Theatres company.

Loew's State Theatre, as it was known then, was built in an Italian Renaissance style and was intended to show vaudeville shows and movies. It opened on February 5, 1921, seating 3,400.[2] Because of the desirability of having the theater's marquee on Euclid Avenue, the State Theatre was built at the back of the lot it shares with the Ohio Theatre, but with a 320-foot-long (98 m) series of three lobbies. This was the world's longest lobby serving a single theater,[2] and it contained four huge murals by James Daugherty, entitled The Spirit of Pageantry—Africa, The Spirit of Drama—Europe, The Spirit of Cinema—America, and The Spirit of Fantasy—Asia. When it comes to independent cinema the State Theatre in North Hobart stands alone in Tasmania. Only the art deco Star in Launceston is comparable. www.flickr.com/photos/luminosity7/49077130843/in/album-72...

Like the post office across the street it opened in 1913 as the North Hobart Picture Palace showing silent movies. The Spanish flu of 1918 and competition from theatres closer to the city centre forced it to close in 1920. It reopened in 1935 and has shown films ever since under a number of different guises.

Since 2019 it has been owned by the Reading Cinemas chain. The key to its success today is that it operates 11 screens in small rooms, allowing for a wide range of movies to be shown at once. The State also operates a bookshop with an extensive range of books about the movies.

Just the colourful reflections in the pool of the National Gallery of Victoria of the festive decor of at the State Theatre with the Spiegeltent - signifying that the Melbourne International Festival is on. The inverted tower and usual banners can also be seen. It is apparent that the pool is due for a good clean up.

Traverse City's gem, the State Theatre, taken today during a brief spell of sunlight. Today's 22 degrees F is 10 degrees warmer than yesterday. A cold, windy, mainly sunless spell, so good to see the sun this afternoon.

The State Theatre (皇都戲院)is one of the last surviving cultural monuments in Hong Kong. Post-war movie palaces, like the State Theatre, that date back to the 1950s are few and far between in Hong Kong. In 2017, it was listed as a Grade 1 Historic Building, thanks not only to its 68 years of history and cultural significance, but also its modernist architecture that is said to be unique in Asia. In 2020, New World Development announced that it would take on the conservation of the Theatre, including the captivating parabolic exoskeleton structure on the rooftop, also known as the "flying trusses". Working with a local and international team of experts, New World’s goal is to revitalise the dilapidated building, preserve its heritage and restore the State Theatre to its original glamour.

Hong Kong has retained its crown as the priciest destination in the world to buy a property, with an average price of US1.25million. The report by CBRE offers an insight to the global housing market and features 38 cities from around the world, including the likes of Shanghai, Paris, New York, Tokyo, London and Madrid.

The report states that “Despite a turbulent 2019 the underlying tensions in Hong Kong have not led to a mass exodus of companies from the city”, with the city remaining number one on the list.

Accidentally I walked into this mall the other day. Unbearably hot and stuffy (yes, it's a shopping mall with no air-conditioning!) but unexplainably I got excited and was feeling just 'great'. Everything here seems to be the same as it was in the 70's... The question then was how long it could remain this way.

State Street is a popular shopping and entertainment destination at State and Liberty Streets at the edge of the University of Michigan central campus and close to downtown. Opened on March 18, 1942, the State Theatre was designed by C. Howard Crane in Art Deco style. I took my photo on the evening of December 23, 2019.
