Wellington Row has been an eyesore for many years. Inside, the former Elks Lodge at 138 State St. bears the marks of years of neglect, but has great potential because of architectural details that remain, such as small mezzanine surrounded by what appears to be wrought-iron.

The Wellington :

The person who most shaped the Wellington was Claude J. Holder (1876-1950), who purchased the original 17 room hotel in 1911 and expanded it to over 400 rooms with a "built-in garage". In 1959, business was still good enough for Carter Hotels to pay Holding's heirs $1,500,000 for the hotel under a contract which obligated the purchaser to provide a television set and air conditioning in every room. Although the appeal of lodging downtown was already diminishing, the Wellington stayed open until the mid-1980s.

The City Savings Bank Building, also known as the Home and City Savings Bank, is located at 100 State Street and was the first skyscraper built in Albany, New York. It is the city's 11th tallest building today.[1] It is a ten-story brick, granite, and terra-cotta structure located within the City of Albany's Central Business District. Designed by the famed architect Marcus T. Reynolds, 100 State Street is a mixed-use retail and office building.

Well known Chicago dive bar in River North. Rub elbows with the folks that make the city work. Blue collars getting off night shift and business attired gents girding themselves for the day ahead. It's all here. Fair prices. Cash only so use the ATM before entering. Liquor store in front and occasionally a little rowdy in the back depending on time of day/night. Diverse patronage is an understatement. Actually a safe area and establishment.
