Startup Weekend, hosted by the Oberlin Entrepreneurship Club, was a two and a half day team event in September that gave students the tools needed to take an idea from concept to execution. The weekend started with featured speaker Charles Stack, CEO of Cleveland's FlashStarts,a leading early-stage startup incubator. Students also worked with mentors, developers, designers, and entrepreneurs. At the end of the event teams pitched their concepts for a chance to win prizes like Oculus Go, Amazon Echo, and Amazon Gift Cards.

The fall 2012 hackNY student hackathon brought in hundreds of students to NYU's Courant Institute for 24 hours of creative collaborative hacking on New York City startups' APIs.

NYC Startups, selected by a student organizing committee, presented their technologies at the beginning of the event, after which students formed groups to work through the night implementing their own ideas for fresh hacks built on top of these APIs.

On Sunday afternoon students presented their projects to an audience including a judging panel featuring members of the NYC startup community, which selected the final winning teams.

Since April 2010, hackNY hosts student hackathons one each semester, as well as the hackNY Fellows program, a structured internship which pairs quantitative and computational students with startups which can demonstrate a strong mentoring environment: a problem for a student to work on, a person to mentor them, and a place for them to work. Startups selected to host a student compensate student Fellows. Students enjoy free housing together and a pedagogical lecture series to introduce them to the ins and outs of joining and founding a startup in NYC.

To find out what you missed at the fall 2012 hackNY student hackathon please do see our eventpage at hackerleague.org and the video of the student demos thanks to ISOC-NY.

Special thanks to our fall 2012 hackNY student hackathon judges! And congratulations to the winners of the fall 2012 hackNY student hackathon!

In a series of 6 GearUP sessions throughout 2014, we will take 20 startups through essential startup topics that can help them grow their business. By inviting experts from Europe and US to coach on different subjects, we hope to provide the participating teams with new and improved skills they can actively apply. The teams will be selected through an application process to make sure that we can solve concrete problems that the teams might be dealing with. We will bring in local as well as international mentors to cover both local and international issues.

The GearUP sessions are aimed at startups currently in operation, who are looking to develop their team and business to an international focus.

The startups selected will commit to attend all 6 sessions at the below dates:

GearUP2: Lean Startup (June 23) w/ Sal Virani (Founder Centric)

GearUP1: Building a team (June 24) w/ Nick Hawtin

GearUP3: Sales & Marketing (Sept 2) w/ Sal Virani (Founder Centric)

GearUP4: Scaling business (Sept 3) w/ Sal Virani (Founder Centric)

GearUP5: Legal (Nov 4)

GearUP6: Term Sheet (Nov 5)
