Yellowstone National Park has such an amazing variety of landscapes--from lush meadows, sparkling lakes and streams, to stark devastation with just the beginnings of new life appearing. Magnificent!

Although the Blue Lagoon is not pictured here, I thought that the lava field was a fantastic panorama of rugged beauty, and was a highlight of the trip....

Wäre 218 436 eine gebrauchte Märklinlok und bei ebay verkäuflich, so stünde beim Artikelzustand sicherlich "stark bespielt". Das fiel mir im Sommer 2022 auf, war aber offensichtlich auch schon anno 2017 so. Ihr Lack weist viele abgenutzte weiße Stellen auf.

Am fortgeschrittenen Nachmittag des 8. Juni 2017 wurden Frau und Kinder mal kurz am Wasserburger Badeplatz alleine gelassen, um den IRE 4232 an den beiden östlichen Ausfahrtssignalen von Enzisweiler abzulichten. Unerwartet zugewachsen ging es dort zu. Nicht nur das Gebüsch rechts erschwerte die Umsetzung. Vielmehr war Gleis 1 gar nicht in das Bild zu integrieren. So scheint das linke Signal "bedeutungslos" in der hochgewachsenen Wiese zu stehen.

Saturday Self Challenge; High contrast black and white

I spotted this group of trees that had been drowned by a lake, and could see their potential for a photograph. It did require some editing to bring about the above effect and at first I wasnt sure that there was enough high contrast to meet the challenge. After checking some images and definitions it seemed that this fitted the bill.

The next photograph in my photostream will give you a view of the full scene in the afternoon light and you will notice the above group of trees in the bottom right hand corner.

This shot at Jewel Changi Airport was an interesting one to take with the stark contrast in expressions. The grandfather looks very happy to hold his granddaughter, who in contrast doesn't seem too happy about it and looks distracted elsewhere.

A bridge I cross on one day a month coming home from work. I stopped but didn't get out of the car as I was blocking the road. Fortunately on this road the traffic is sparse. Just opened in Adobe Camera Raw without further post.

This image makes me think of the solitude experienced by lightkeepers on long winter nights on the North Atlantic Coast. There is not much warmth, and only the single light to keep you company.

Today it's hard to see it like this, all burnt down, and imagine it will be pretty once more. But nature has an amazing way of fixing itself and already there are signs of life again with grasses and plants growing up out of the ashes.

If only we had politicians in this country with the same determination to get on in life we might have a better country to live in. For the moment they bog us down in a pit of neverending despair because they can't see the light. Parliament needs to be burnt down, and a new and fresh type of government be allowed to establish roots and thrive for the benefit of us all. Burn all the dead wood now!

Die Hornisse ist die größte in Mitteleuropa lebende Faltenwespe. Die Körpergröße der Königin beträgt von 23 bis zu 35 Millimeter, die der Arbeiterinnen 18 bis 25 Millimeter und die der Drohnen 21 bis 28 Millimeter. Als Hornissenart ist sie erkennbar an der Gestalt des Kopfes: Bei Ansicht von oben ist der hintere Abschnitt des Kopfes hinter den Komplexaugen zu den Seiten hin stark erweitert, dadurch sind die Ocellen weiter vom Kopfhinterrand entfernt als von den Komplexaugen; ihr Abstand ist mehr als doppelt so groß. Ein weiteres Merkmal zeigt sich in der Aderung der Vorderflügel: Hier mündet die erste Ader (die Radialschaltader Rs) in die parallel zum Flügelrand verlaufende Längsader (vereinigter Radius und Subcosta) weit vor dem Pterostigma oder Flügelmal in diese ein. Bei den anderen Gattungen mündet sie dicht benachbart, weniger als zweimal die Länge des Flügelmals. Meist ist die Hornisse aber bereits an der charakteristischen Färbung gut erkennbar. Kopf und Rumpfabschnitt sind schwarz, meist mit ausgedehnter roter oder braunroter Zeichnung, der Rumpfabschnitt trägt keine gelben Zeichnungselemente. Der erste Tergit des freien Hinterleibs ist nur bei dieser Art dreifarbig: der vordere Abschnitt ist rot, dahinter sitzt ein mehr oder weniger breiter dunkler Fleck, der Endabschnitt ist gelb gefärbt. Der restliche Hinterleib trägt, wie bei vielen Wespenarten, eine schwarze Zeichnung unterschiedlicher Form und Ausdehnung auf gelbem Grund. Bei Ansicht des Kopfes von vorn ist der Kopfschild (Clypeus) rein gelb gefärbt, die schwarze Zeichnung der meisten anderen sozialen Faltenwespen fehlt. Wiki
