..... and a little melancholy.

“The Blue Lagoon is one of Iceland's most popular attractions, and it's is little wonder as to why. The beautiful milky-blue water is unlike anything else found on earth, and makes a stark contrast to the surrounding black lava field and its creeping grey moss. It sits at 39°C (102°F) year-round, making it the perfect temperature for bathing.

The lagoon is situated on the Reykjanes Peninsula in southwest Iceland, a region renowned for its barren landscapes and cone-shaped volcanoes. It is only a 15-minute drive from the Keflavík International Airport, and around a 30-minute drive from the capital city of Iceland, Reykjavík.”

Although the Blue Lagoon is not pictured here, I thought that the lava field was a fantastic panorama of rugged beauty, and was a highlight of the trip....

This week, after a long time, I hiked along the "Kleine Kyll" near Manderscheid/ Volcanic Eifel and was inspired by the idyll of this river valley.

After a few years ago, the nature around the "Germanen bridge" after windfall and tree-cutting work had pulled strongly, it has now recovered visibly.

The new bridge and a "mindfulness trail" of 6 km invite many visitors to this quiet valley, which offers a lot of further hiking and refreshing possibilities.

A hill behind Yellowstone sports hundreds of bare trees, due to wildfires in recent years. Their stark beauty is simply magnificent.

Dark and Stark still bare from winter the trees are reaching for what little sun there is.

After all the seascapes of late I thought my gallery could do with some drying out. And what better way to dry out than a trip to the desert.

This is the high desert and plateau regions of northern Arizona enroute to land in the Grand Canyon by helicpoter. (It may be the Mojave Desert, my sense of US geography isn't that great) It was truly magnificent to watch the landscape flitting away below us, the starkness of the land telling a story and showcasing the haunting beauty of this barren environment. So wonderfully different to anything here in Australia. One of my favourite sayings: "A desert is proof that beauty doesn’t need to be complicated."

I did say to the chopper pilot - “I’m dune my best to have a great time but please don’t desert me here!” ;)

Apologies for the image quality, it was taken from a helicopter in flight through a window.

Have a great week out there.

Thanks for all the kind comments , they are always greatly appreciated.

Stark Day absence of color in the gray sky's and white trees in this surreal photograph, shot in North Carolina.

San Diego is marketed as America's Finest City, with year-round near perfect weather, beautiful beaches, quick access to the desert, and plentiful opportunities for fun in the sun. "One foot in the Pacific, one foot in the desert" and an authenticity different from California's other major cities.

Sometimes, when the winters have more moisture than normal, San Diego reveals a different side...with green growth across the landscape, snow in the Laguna Mountains, and flooding in the streets along the coastal areas.

This is no less San Diego than the 70° and sunny days that we typically enjoy...it is authentic and no less beautiful to my eye.

Shot taken today on my drive home from the lake. I found the shot more interesting in negative format.

When I came back with this souvenir in my luggage, a sticker informed me that my suitcase had been opened by the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) - but maybe the reason was the half-galon canister with hot tomato juice...

This shot at Jewel Changi Airport was an interesting one to take with the stark contrast in expressions. The grandfather looks very happy to hold his granddaughter, who in contrast doesn't seem too happy about it and looks distracted elsewhere.
