For your delight this Sliders Sunday I have concocted three very different offerings.
This session started, like many before, with an image that had some interesting qualities (principally colour and graphic shapes here) but wasn’t good enough to process as a proper image. This image was too blurred to be worth straight editing. So into the witch’s cauldron it went…
The mangles are (in no particular order):
- A plain edit and then a polar to rectangular conversion, but only on the red channel. I then rotated the image by 180 degrees and did the same but only on the blue channel. Instant modern art!
- A Topaz Studio 2 conversion using the Glow filter (amongst others - it was my own preset. Ask if you would like it :) ).
- Like the first this version was a simple edit in Affinity (easily done in PS too). I duplicated the proper edit version layer and then used the Liquify filter to push the pixels around mainly in a circular clockwise motion. I then blended it back to the proper edit layer using Difference blend. Then all I had to do was increase the brightness, contrast and saturation. I’ll probably post this version to the Sliders Sunday group as it’s more obvious on a small screen for those using smaller devices for Flickr. But I love the intricacy of the Topaz edit too…
All the manglings have been flipped horizontally which seemed to tell a better story.

On April 29, 2004, the last Oldsmobile comes off the assembly line at the Lansing Car Assembly plant in Michigan, signaling the end of the 106-year-old automotive brand, America's oldest.

Another Blue Monday! Found these beauties near Traer, Iowa. They are 1962 Oldsmobile Starfiers!
There were actually four cars but the other was off to side with too much clutter blocking it.
Initially built to rival the Ford Thunderbird, the first-generation Starfire was Oldsmobile's flagship personal luxury vehicle.
1961 Oldsmobile Starfire. This ranks about number three on my top ten most wanted list.
2011 Back to the Fifties car show.
The 1966 Oldsmobile Starfire was the final iteration of Oldsmobile's flagship, full-sized personal luxury coupe. It holds a unique position in automotive history as a "gentleman's muscle car," balancing jet-age luxury styling with massive big-block performance. Article from Hemmings...
The Lockheed F-94C Starfire, a Cold War-era interceptor aircraft, featured advanced radar and a redesigned nose. Introduced in 1951, it housed a crew of one and could reach speeds of 640 mph. Armed with 24 rockets, it played a crucial role in safeguarding the skies against potential aerial threats during its service.
One of the few things I have from my beloved grandmother is her red cut-crystal glass vase. When I turned it upside down, it caught the light and seemed like a star on fire. It made me wonder which circle it would be in Dante's Inferno. And yet, it is beautiful and hopeful, so maybe it is on the journey to Paradiso. It also looks like a compass looking for true north.
