Named for its loud ‘bob white’ call, this quail is a small chunky bird with short rounded wings. Males have a black cap, white throat and chin, and a white stripe through and above the eye to the back of the head. Females have a tan colored throat and no black neck collar.
Bobwhite quail live in bushy areas interspersed with fields. They prefer edges, fence rows and areas with vegetative cover.
Bobwhites are active during the day; they feed on seeds, fruit, insects and green plants. Pairs are monogamous with pair bonds sometimes persisting between breeding seasons. Males advertise during the May to August breeding season with a distinctive bob-bob-white call.
Females lay large clutches of up to 14 eggs, which hatch after 23 days. The precocial young are about the size of a quarter coin, and feed largely on insects. The chicks double their weight every 10 days can fly within 2-3 weeks.
Bobwhites are commonly seen in groups known as coveys. Coveys usually consist of about 10-30 birds, depending on the time of year. Every night, for safety, the covey forms a circle with their heads facing outwards, away from each other and their tails together. If a predator startles them, the covey flushes in all directions.
Bobwhite quail are a popular game bird in the United States. In 1970 an estimated 35 million of them were shot. In the southeastern US these tiny birds were instrumental in the preservation of some of the best examples of old growth high pine.
I found this male along Joe Overstreet Road in Osceola County, Florida.

The peacocks are allowed free range at the zoo, so you never know where, or when you'll see them. I spotted some rustling in a dogwood bush. I looked more carefully then saw that a peacock was gobbling up the berries that were low to the ground. Suddenly the peacock stood up straight before going back to pick berries.

No secret that my first love in my photography life is the larger wildlife species of North America. But when I post several of the big guys and gals, my photo stream starts lacking much color variation. So when that happens, I turn to birds to brighten things up a bit.
Here, a tom turkey decided to show how tall he could be, and in doing so, shows off a lot of iridescent color. Starting with this one, I'll bring out some more colorful birds.

Still haven't managed to find any decent butterfly shots from Easter Monday, but this gorgeous field of rapeseed.
For those of you who don't know me, I'm only 5'2" and rapeseed is a lot taller than that.... so, I had to stand on my tiptoes and reach my camera as high as I could into the air... I was able to twist my screen down so I could see what I was shooting LOL
It was a dull evening, but I think I salvaged this one :)
I'm so glad we're getting closer to the weekend. Even with 2 days off, I'm still shattered LOL

Designed by David Childs of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, One World Trade Center is the tallest building in the United States, the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, and the seventh-tallest in the world. The supertall structure has the same name as the North Tower of the original World Trade Center, which was destroyed in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The new skyscraper stands on the northwest corner of the 16-acre (6.5 ha) World Trade Center site, on the site of the original 6 World Trade Center. It is bounded by West Street to the west, Vesey Street to the north, Fulton Street to the south, and Washington Street to the east."

Mother grizzly standing tall in a sedge grass meadow. She was checking for the whereabouts of a male bear in the area, which are know to kill unrelated cubs. When grizzlies rear up on their hind legs they can be up to an impressive 8 feet tall. Note the long claws on her forepaw. Khutzeymateen, BC.

A delicate natural lineup—tall, slender reeds standing closely together, swaying gently in the breeze. Their thin stems and soft textures create an almost abstract composition in black and white, emphasizing the patterns of repetition and vertical alignment. The blurred background adds a sense of depth, making the individual stalks stand out in an organic rhythm.
A dripping wet mother grizzly stands up to her maximum height to check the surrounding area for male grizzlies that could threaten her yearling cub. The protective mom and her cub had just swam over from the shoreline near their den to feed on the protein-rich spring sedge grasses in the centre of the Khutzeymateen estuary, a remote protected grizzly sanctuary in northern British Columbia.
