The father (sire) to all the foals I photographed this Spring. He's a gentle giant and takes good care of his mares and babies.
Happy Father's Day!
Hard to believe my Dad has been gone for 9 years, simply put, he was my hero. I miss his guidance most of all... especially during these tough times as well as his laughter and how he fixed everything around here. I was in Costco last week and I saw this gentleman who looked so much like my dad from behind, the stance, grey/white hair and baseball cap. I teared up and wished that it really was him.
So, If you are lucky enough to still have your father pick up the phone or go see him, mend fences if you don't get along and for heaven's sake don't give him a rain-check, you never know when it will be your last Father's Day.
This stallion seemed to enjoy himself as he took a nice dust bath in the dirt. This photo was taken at Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota.
This handsome wild Stallion was taken in Utah. There are many bands of wild horses in the west. My understanding is that they arrived with the Spanish and became feral over time. They are a controversial subject in that the cattle farmers feel that they compete with the sometimes meager resources available in a lot of the BLM land and argue that they eat deeper into the roots of the vegetation. My horse whisperer friends deny that and make the strong case that the where the horses have roamed for years the vegetation has remained unchanged. Water sources are often provided by the hand of man and I'm not sure how well the horses would do without our aid. In Dugway, where this image was taken, the herds have been culled due to lack of resources. Similarly, in Nevada, herd culling is always underway and the controversies and arguments there are never ending. Nevada uses prisoners to capture and break the horses for eventual resale, I hope. I think if I were serving time I'd volunteer for that job. My take is that many of these states are failing to realize the potential tourist dollars that could be earned by attracting more outdoor photographers to wild horse country. Not that I'm complaining!
This Stallion was photographed in Utah. Credit to Mike Stern for sending me to Dugway and helping me find the horses. My images are a shadow of the great ones he got. Thanks Mike
Note: I want to thank everyone for taking the time to comment on any of my images but find that I can't keep up with thanking you all individually. Instead, when I see a comment from one of you, I'll check out your recent posts and post a comment on one or more of your images. Thanks for your understanding.
Palomino wild stallions are a rare sight. I can only think of four out of all the wild stallions I have seen. This absolutely magnificent stallion is known as Bobby and has a beautiful little band.

SELF-PORTRAIT AS SELF
What is the nature of the self? Today I saw
a coughing sheep but I don’t know if this sheds
any light on the question. I also saw a stallion
with a yard-long erection and a soft rain was falling.
The definition and locating of that self
can now begin. You open up your senses and language
flashes through your skull. You look at something and know
that you’re not that thing, although you can’t be
so sure of it since quantum physics proved
that a thing changes its form when it is observed
and the viewer defines the thing viewed. So that
the borders of that self suddenly become blurred.
It is found in everything you see and hear and feel
and taste. Should you then close off your senses
to keep this self as it were on board? But that would mean
that the one who no longer experiences anything
is the most his own self. Is our true nature
only revealed in a heap of ashes no one looks at any more

I composed this photograph of a sculpture of a rising stallion that I found on the Boo Hoff hiking trail in La Quinta, California.
Hard to believe, I know, but it appears that someone has attempted to deface it by throwing a can of paint at it, as one can see down the horse's right shoulder and flank.
I love the sculpture, though, and dressed it up a little for presentation.
This beautiful young stallion is a palomino pinto. The only one in about 800 wild horses! He seems to know he is something special. He is known as METEOR.

Bundeswehr Sikorsky CH-53 Sea Stallion performing at the Fassberg Army base, germany.
Fassberg is the home of the German Army transport regiment.
This stallion is named Jetset Monarch and was released in the Wilverley area of The New Forest. A group of mares galloped past us being chased by him. I was lucky to get some shots as usually by the time you hear the galloping horses and get your camera ready they are gone.
Free grazing is provided for up to 30 stallions on the forest
These are inspected by five judges, who look at conformation, type and action/movement, as well as bloodlines.
For 2024, 20 stallions will be on the Forest between 7 May and will be in by 18 June. As always, please give them a wide berth, as all ponies’ behaviour during this time will be unpredictable.
This Stallion appeared to be the lead stallion of a band with 8 horses. I was in a remote area and they gave me less than 5 minutes before taking off in the willows.
Uncropped image of a Zebra Stallion having breakfast.
Zebras are more closely related to horses than donkeys. They all belong to the Equus family tree and zebras are directly related to horses, whereas donkeys are one branch farther away from horses than zebras are.

Did you ever have a dream as a child that never quite went away? Mine was that I would have a paint horse that looked JUST like this beautiful wild stallion and we would ride across the prairies of Nebraska together. Never got the horse but I still have the dream!

Between April and May, I visited two purebred racing farms several times, dedicating time to one-year-old foals, then to adult males and finally to the mares with their young only a few months old. Here I was in the presence of stallions resting in the meadow; I was impressed by this, with her majestic and statuary body.

I haven't seen an Arabian horse since I sold my last two mares, and had forgotten just how special an Arabian is. We were driving along a country road when I spotted this stallion, and just had to stop and say "hello". When he saw me getting out of the car, he immediately came over to the corner of his pen to greet me.
The country stud.
Already in the Middle Ages, the rulers of Württemberg good stallions from the stables her horse breeders in the country are available. The prince saw the then much greater economic importance of a thriving farm and looked at it this way to actively promote.
Initially this was a practice which by decrees and edicts were strengthened. The state of Baden-Wuerttemberg as well as other countries keep the country's horse breeding necessary number of Stallions (Landbeschäler) and make it available to horse breeders. Pull the end of February keeper stud stallions, each with 2-4 more on the Deckstationen, Beschälplatten mentioned. Beschälplatten makers are in most cases, the counties or municipalities. They are all over the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg distributed. Return at the end of June and the keeper stud stallions Gestütshöfe on the back.

This past weekend I was in Fenelon Falls visiting the Rocky Mountain Horses with my friends from my camera club. They have such stunning horses with incredible outgoing personalities. I can't wait until my next trip!

The time of year when the weather is turning warmer tends to make stallions a bit more frisky and promote more dominance challenges for nearby mares.
