We recently stayed at the incredible Amstel Hotel in Amsterdam. I took this picture at sunset, handheld on a rocking boat. I'm glad the Sony a7ii has a stabilizer built in.
This is just a lonely Argan tree in the desert of Morocco. I think that is clear enough that I love the "Lonely Tree" theme. But this one has an invisible peculiarity, or better a curiosity: the photo has been made running over the 100kmh on a off-road vehicle, while we were approaching the sand dunes. It is one of the really rare shots I ever made at 1/4000s, but I must say that the nikon shutter and its stabilizer are a hell of gear! Unbelievable isn't it?

In the well in the middle of the woods with the portable shed placed in its vicinity and with the aim on Bean bag. When I saw this Redwing I could not believe my eyes and, so it was my happiness to have it for the first time in the crosshairs, that my hands were shaking ... .. luckily the stabilizer did its duty. Fog...
Rather unsuitable for wide-angle lenses, as objects in the distance are depicted much too small. But those objects are exactly what matters. Because they fade into the distance and that creates the magical atmosphere in the fog that we all love so much, right?
So my wide-angle lens was allowed to rest at home today and I took off with my standard zoom lens. Without a tripod, without a filter, just like that, can it be grasped?
But you don't need a filter on foggy days. The water droplets in the air reflect the light in all directions and reduce the contrast. The sky is almost as bright as the grass on the ground.
And with a slightly increased ISO value (not too much, otherwise there will be ugly ISO noise), activated image stabilizer (IS) and a rather open aperture, the absence of a tripod is no longer a problem.
We love foggy days, because on these you can take photos with an inspiring ease.
I wish you all a good time, have a good new year and stay healthy.
Greetings from Bremen North.

Nebel...

Lerneffekt:
1. Bei schnellbewegenden Objekten den Stabilisator deaktivieren.
2. Bei hellem Gefieder und dunklem Hintergrund Belichtungskorrektur.
Target photo - not perfect - criticism welcome!
The path to the target photo has begun. On this day I wanted to photograph a bird of prey flying right at me and also showing the appearance of having me in its sights.
Lesson learned:
1. deactivate the stabilizer for fast-moving objects.
2. use exposure compensation for bright plumage and dark background

The large bee-fly
A small diptera, harmless against human poeple (its long right trunk only serves to forage) ... but not against solitary bees (parasitism).
It looks like it’s using his two hind legs as flight stabilizers...
Like the hummingbird hawk-moth (lepidopteran), it is a fan of hovering. The wings beat very, very fast. The rapid shutter speed (1/250 second) did not allow to freeze them, leaving a trace of "motion blur".

I'm really excited about what the technology can do – here the IBIS, image stabilizer in the camera. Especially about the fact that you can easily do photos with movement out of hand and without a tripod – and the rest gets sharp ;-)

This male Anna Hummingbird was fanning its tail feathers while hovering for a moment, before taking off in a mad dash of speed after another male Anna invading its territorial space.
Like that of a plane the Hummingbird uses its tail as both a horizontal and vertical stabilizer. While in flight, Hummingbirds are continuously adjusting their wings and tails. While hovering in a vertical position like the one shown, fanning the tail works to stop any forward motion. They can also create a high whistling sound by adjusting their tail feathers while in flight. This whistling sound is believed to be for territorial and mating displays.
