Danbury-bound Metro-North train 1830, led by New York Central P32AC-DM 211, passes the former 1899-built Bethel Station on a drab March afternoon. When the railroad closed this station, it housed a bicycle repair shop for years. The current owners are Broken Symmetry Gastro Brewery, with the current Metro-North Bethel Station north of this location.

Empty Boeing aircraft parts cars along with flats carrying trailers and containers on the head end trail Burlington Northern “tiger stripe” GP50 3113 and SD40-2 8073 leading Train 92, (Spokane-Houston) near milepost 17.5, west of Broomfield, CO. October 23, 1988

Operating on former Colorado & Southern Ry. trackage, (absorbed by the BN in 1981) the train curves to the east near a location formerly known as Burns Junction where the Denver & Interurban, an electric interurban line that once paralleled the C&S split off and continued west to the city of Boulder.

A truly unmistakeable species, the striped shield bug (Graphosoma lineatum) on the leaf of a thistle.

De pyjamaschildwants (Graphosoma italicum), ook wel pyjamawants, rood-zwarte streepwants of gevangeniswants genoemd, is een 8,5--11,0 mm grote wants uit de familie Pentatomidae. De tekening is kenmerkend en bestaat uit een knalrode basiskleur met brede zwarte lengtestrepen over de gehele bovenzijde van het lichaam. De rode strepen zijn ongeveer even dik als de zwarte en die op de rand van het achterlijf staan enigszins naar buiten. De pootjes en antennes zijn zwart, de buik is rood met vele kleine zwarte vlekjes. Het lichaam is erg rond en de lengte ligt tussen de 8 en 12 mm. Kenmerkend is ook het grote schildje, dat tot de achterlijfspunt reikt en de voorvleugels grotendeels bedekt. De nimfen hebben nog geen rood-zwarte tekening, die dient om vijanden als vogels te waarschuwen voor de walgelijke smaak. Ze zijn merendeels grijsgroen van kleur. Deze soort komt voor in grote delen van zuidelijk Europa en delen van westelijk Europa, waaronder België en Nederland. De pyjamaschildwants leeft van diverse schermbloemigen en is vaak op de bloemschermen van wilde peen, pastinaak, engelwortel en zevenblad te vinden.

I used a light on the side of the crystal ball since it is another dark and dreary day to get a little more light in it but I also got some reflections.... ~

Four shots of the Autumn bark of a snakebark maple growing in our garden. I planted this tree in 1986. It's still only about 15 feet tall, but it isn't in an entirely sheltered position and at around 1000 feet above sea level on the edge of the Pennines, so I think it's done quite well. In this shot I placed one of it's fallen leaves next to the bark.

This butterfly is also known as the Sriped Tiger in India.

Crocus vernus 'Pickwick'

These crocuses bloom up to two week later than yellow crocuses (Crocus flavus).

Common names: Striped purple crocus, Dutch crocus.

Commenting on my picture of the Knotty AEC Swift, Lady Wulfrun asked where the inspiration for the livery had come from. Originally Knotty used a two tone grey sripe, but this was later changed to red. In this shot, a nearly new Kilmarnock based Seddon Pennine VII is seen backing off the stand (or stance if you're in Scotland) at Glasgow's Buchanan bus station. The bus if fitted with Falkirk built Alexander T type bodywork, which was the successor to their long running Y Type.
