Upgraded with round J58-P4 Engines!

Always wanted to build the SR-71, but was never happy using slopes for the engines as it is a beautiful curvy beast. I do like how this version has finished up, though still working on the retractable undercarriage.

Wiki: The Lockheed SR-71 is an advanced, long-range, Mach 3 strategic reconnaissance aircraft developed by the Lockheed Skunk Works. The SR-71 was unofficially named the Blackbird, A defensive feature of the aircraft was its high speed and operating altitude, whereby, if a surface-to-air missile launch were detected, standard evasive action was simply to accelerate. The SR-71 line was in service from 1964 to 1998, with 12 of the 32 aircraft being destroyed in accidents, though none were lost to enemy action.

The SR-71 remained the world's fastest and highest-flying operational manned aircraft throughout its career. From an altitude of 80,000 ft (24 km), it could survey 100,000 square miles per hour (72 square kilometers per second) of the Earth's surface. In addition, it was accurate enough to take a picture of a car's license plate from this altitude.

A phenomenal piece of machinery....its hard to grasp the fact that this was designed and developed in the 60's. You truly have to see one in person to understand the immense size of this 2 seater and the sheer power and beauty of it. This particular SR-71 was on display at the Air and Space Museum in Chantilly, VA.

No reconnaissance aircraft in history has operated globally in more hostile airspace or with such complete impunity than the SR-71, the world's fastest jet-propelled aircraft. The Blackbird's performance and operational achievements placed it at the pinnacle of aviation technology developments during the Cold War.

This Blackbird accrued about 2,800 hours of flight time during 24 years of active service with the U.S. Air Force. On its last flight, March 6, 1990, Lt. Col. Ed Yielding and Lt. Col. Joseph Vida set a speed record by flying from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C., in 1 hour, 4 minutes, and 20 seconds, averaging 3,418 kilometers (2,124 miles) per hour. At the flight's conclusion, they landed at Washington-Dulles International Airport and turned the airplane over to the Smithsonian.
