Tromsø is a municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Tromsø.
Tromsø lies in Northern Norway. The 2,521-square-kilometre (973 sq mi) municipality is the 18th largest by area out of the 422 municipalities in Norway. Tromsø is the 9th most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 71,590 (2014). The municipality's population density is 30.6 inhabitants per square kilometre (79/sq mi) and its population has increased by 15.9% over the last decade.[6][7] It is the largest urban area in Northern Norway and the third largest north of the Arctic Circle anywhere in the world (following Murmansk and Norilsk). Most of Tromsø, including the city centre, is located on the island of Tromsøya, 350 kilometres (217 mi) north of the Arctic Circle. In 2017, the city of Tromsø had a population of about 65,000 people spread out over Tromsøya and parts of Kvaløya and the mainland. Tromsøya is connected to the mainland by the Tromsø Bridge and the Tromsøysund Tunnel, and to the island of Kvaløya by the Sandnessund Bridge.
The municipality is warmer than most other places located on the same latitude, due to the warming effect of the Gulf Stream. Tromsø is even milder than places much farther south of it elsewhere in the world, such as on the Hudson Bay and in Far East Russia, with the warm-water current allowing for both relatively mild winters and tree growth in spite of its very high latitude.
The city centre of Tromsø contains the highest number of old wooden houses in Northern Norway, the oldest house dating from 1789. The city is a cultural centre for its region, with several festivals taking place in the summer. Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge of the electronica duo Röyksopp and Lene Marlin grew up and started their careers in Tromsø. Noted electronic musician Geir Jenssen also hails from Tromsø.
Well, at least about a third of it... 😁
The Steinhuder Meer in Lower Saxony is the largest lake in northwestern Germany with an area of 29.12 km² (that's 11.24 sq mi for the "imperialists"). It is a shallow lake with a maximum depth of 2.9 metres, formed after the recession of the glaciers of the Weichselian glaciation, about 14,000 years ago.

Wappa Dam, Sunshine Coast Queensland.
"The Wappa Dam is a mass concrete gravity arch dam with earth-fill abutments and an un-gated spillway across the South Maroochy River that is located in the South East region of Queensland, Australia. The main purpose of the dam is for supply of potable water for the Sunshine Coast region.
Completed in 1963, the concrete dam structure is 24 metres (79 ft) high and 138 metres (453 ft) long. The 12-thousand-cubic-metre (420×103 cu ft) dam wall holds back the 4,614-megalitre (1,015×106 imp gal; 1,219×106 US gal) reservoir when at full capacity. From a catchment area of 69.7 square kilometres (26.9 sq mi) with a mean annual rainfall of approximately 1,700 millimetres (67 in) that includes much of the Maroochy River, the dam creates an unnamed reservoir with a surface area of 74 hectares (180 acres). The un–gated spillway has a discharge capacity of 1,420 cubic metres per second (50,000 cu ft/s).[1] Initially managed by the Sunshine Coast Regional Council, management of the dam was transferred to SEQ Water in July 2008 as part of a water security project in the South East Queensland region, known as the South East Queensland Water Grid.[5] The accompanying water treatment plant is also managed by SEQ Water. Dal is a freshwater lake and is integral to tourism and recreation in the Kashmir valley. It is also an important source for commercial operations in fishing and water plant harvesting. The shoreline of the lake, about 15.5 kms, is encompassed by a boulevard lined with several Mughal era gardens, parks, houseboats and hotels. The lake covers an area of 18 sq.kms and is part of a natural wetland which covers 21,1 sq.kms including floating gardens. The floating gardens, known as "Raad" in Kashmiri, blossom with lotus flowers during July and August.
A Shikara ride is a must on a trip to Srinagar and we spent a dreamy couple of hours one afternoon on this beautiful lake. As you sit back and enjoy your ride, floating shops come alongside and you can buy anything from local saffron, Kahwa (Kashmiri tea) , silver trinkets or even succulent kebabs.:-)
Namtso is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet and significant for Tibetan Buddhists. Kora is a Tibetan word that means "circumambulation" or "revolution". Kora is both a type of pilgrimage and a type of meditative practice in the Tibetan Buddhism. Thus, Namtso Kora means pilgrimage walk around the Lake Namtso.
Namtso literally means heavenly lake in Tibetan language. Located around 240km northwest of Lhasa, capital of Tibet, it takes four hours’ driving from Lhasa. Extending 70 km from east to west and 30 km from south to north, the lake covers an area of 1,920 sq km and has an altitude of 4748 m above sea level. It is biggest lake in Tibet and the second biggest salt lake in China as well as one of the highest lakes in the world. The water in the lake is crystally clear and blue. The blue sky joins the surface of the lake in the distance, creating an integrated, scenic vista.
In every Tibetan year of sheep, thousands of Tibetan Buddhism believers will come here to worship this sacred lake. As a rule, they will walk clockwise along the Namtso Lake in order to receive the blessing of the gods.
There are several fine Tibet treks around the lake. The shortest one is roughly 4 kilometers and takes less than one hour. It starts from the accommodation area to a hermit’s cave hidden behind a large spinter of rock. The kora continues to a rocky promontory of cairns and prayer flags. At the promontory, pilgrims undertake a ritural washing in the lake. And then the trail continues past several caves and a prostration point where there are two rock towers looking like two hands. Pilgrims squeeze into the deep slices of the nearby cliff face as a means of sin detection or drink water dripping from cave roofs, even swallow holy dirt.

I waited a long time for SQ to send us their A350! Here is 'Singapore 336' about to touch down on 09L during a sunny morning. The A350 is one of the most elegant aircrafts in that angle I think!

No, I did not erase the gear in this photo. This was the usual airshow take-off by an RAF Buccaneer. In fact I didn't even crop the photo, I only levelled the horizon. Lucky shot!

The eighth and final image of mine currently included in the #OxonArtweeks Oxford Photographers group show at the Mathematical Institute on the Woodstock Road, Oxford.
This is slight reworking of a previously uploaded shot of a lightwell at the Forum in Barcelona to give it some additional impact. Designed by Herzog & de Meuron, it ranks amongst the most unusual buildings I've seen anywhere. It's also one of my favourite images I've ever taken.
More details of the Exhibition here for those in the Oxford area : www.facebook.com/events/1042876822435988/
The Exhibition features a wide range of different photographic genres from myself and ten other talented local photographers. There should be something for everyone.......
