More of the spoon flower

At a festival this weekend, I came across the highly prized and oh so dificult to grow, spoonflower. This beautiful bloomer is known for its sparkle and tarnish! They do best in full sun and Art Festivals. No watering required.

I wondered how large graphic Spoonflower design segments would come off with the fill a yard option, so I searched out a few that might complement one another. I am very happy with the saturation of the blacks and the overall impact this tool can produce.

This was done for a photo club challenge where you had to use 3 spoons in the image.

My order from spoonflower arrived yesterday!! Fabric with my own pattern ^___^

It was a test and I think it's really nice, I'm gonna make more patterns! :D

‘What’s up, Buttercup? by Su_G' (www.spoonflower.com/designs/15180181): entry in Spoonflower's 'Buttercups Home Decor' Design Challenge. © Su Schaefer 2023

I imagine this design used for pillows or cushions. Thanks to Lotte, one of my Life Drawing group’s models. Two phrases ran through my head as I created this design: I used one for the title (apparently it *is* an actual saying), and the other was the title of a chart-topping song by The Foundations in 1968: ‘Build me up Buttercup’, guaranteed to cheer you up and this link uses a flower (guess which one) for the songster: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSofzQURQDk

Sorry that the new voting system still (sigh) has bugs... www.spoonflower.com/design-challenge/Buttercups is the link for voting - patience needed as can take a long time to get past the gray boxes stage - generally open for one week only.

BUT be warned! There will probably be around 1500 entries, and in previous contests they have been hard to see.

If you do feel reckless and decide for the "new and exciting" voting experience please let me have some quotable quotes re what worked and what didn't so I can pass them on to Spoonflower. Thank you! :-)

But I understand if that's too much.

'Honoring the glaze: piglet + butter bowls (for EastFork) by Su_G': on off-white (#f8f5ec) for elegance to match these peerless ceramics. My entry in the 'East Fork: Butter + Piglet' Design Challenge. © Su Schaefer 2023

Artists had to use both East Fork glaze colors: Butter (#F4EDBA) and Piglet (#F2DDDD) as the main colors, with additional colors allowed (no more than 4 in total, neutrals recommended) to ensure designs coordinate well with East Fork products. "Honoring the glaze colors is key" - easy to do as they're so delicious.

The link for voting will be www.spoonflower.com/contest_voters_temp/new?contest_id=690 - open for one week only. BUT be warned! There are a record 2175 entries as we speak and (much as I hate to say this) if previous contests are anything to go by, many entries will have little to no relationship to the brief.

'Canadian Winter Willdlife by Su_G' - shown as cushions (mockup c/o Spoonflower), designed as

a one yard cheater quilt (my entry in Spoonflower's Canadian Wildlife Design Challenge) featuring wintry weather and cold-loving creatures: Arctic hare, beaver, moose, polar bear, seal, whale, walrus. © Su Schaefer 2020

I really like the way the Moose looks as if it's going to jump right off the cushion, and I'm also quite fond of the bears.

Introducing 'Tropical Rainforest Oasis' – my entry into this week's Spoonflower Forest Biome design challenge. Let's celebrate the recent Forest Stewardship Council® certification of three Spoonflower wallpapers – because forests connect us all in the coolest way! Living in the tropics isn't always a walk in the park, but it sure is beautiful. This fabric design, adorned with the spirited charm of galas, aims to bring a bit of escapism into our chaotic world. Hopefully, you find it delightful. This oasis will be available in other colors too (scroll to the end). Good luck to all the participants! 😍

Been off of Flicke for months while building and moving into a new studio. Now I'm playing with the idea of printing fabrics at Spoonflower. Is this too paperlike??
