Last light in the coastal forest.

The trees stand like sentinels, silent, skeletal, and unmoved. Beyond them, the mountains rise in shadow, cloaked in mist and memory. The sky is thick with cloud, but it’s not the weather that weighs heavy, it’s the presence. Light barely filters through, casting no warmth, only warning. This is not a trail. It’s a threshold. The kind of place where names are forgotten and footsteps echo longer than they should. The forest doesn’t speak. It listens. And the ridge, distant and dark, watches without blinking.

Deep in the Georgia woods, a shadowed creek winds through tangled undergrowth and leaning trees, their limbs clawing at the dim light filtering through the canopy. A small wooden bridge lurks in the background, half hidden by mist and foliage, as if guarding secrets long forgotten. The monochrome palette casts a ghostly hush over the forest, where reflections ripple like whispers and the silence feels watchful. This image evokes a sense of mystery and quiet unease, an untouched place where time slows and nature holds its breath.

Spooky forest on a early morning

Spooky Forest (Gespensterwald) near Nienhagen in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is a very magical location.

This image is from my yesterday short trip to baltic sea.

The Cursed Tree. ... some legends suggests the tree is cursed: those who damage or disrespect the tree ..usually by urinating on it, or making disparaging remarks about it while nearby... will soon thereafter come to some sort of harm.....

Near Spooky Forest at Nienhagen, Germany. – I know a German beach at the Baltic Sea, there is a big golden nugget in the surf. When I hiked along this beach, I found it and much wanted to take it home, because a big golden nugget is very useful and also because it was starting to grow algae. Algae do not go well with a big golden nugget. When I tried to lift it, I could not because such a big golden nugget is also very heavy. Possibly, this explains why nobody before me took it home. So, there is still a big golden nugget in the surf at this Baltic Sea beach in Germany and maybe you can go and get it. ;-)

Locals call it spooky forest. I would rather call it 'magic'. The trees grow above a cliff at the coast of the Baltic Sea. Some time ago i showed this place in monochrome. Let's now see it in color.

My wife has been trying to get me to use my Iphone 15 for travel photography. It takes decent photos but still not the same quality of a good DSLR, in this case a Sony A7iii.

These photos are from the Fanal Forest, also known as the Spooky Forest, since it seems to be perpetually shrouded in fog - cold, wet, misty, and pretty creepy. We loved it!

Foggy sunrise in our woods behind my house. This photo was taken late winter/ early spring of this year. This is the view from our back porch. Like a lot of photos this looks better with the Black background.

Puzzlewood is an ancient woodland site, near Coleford in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, England. The site, covering 14 acres (5.7 ha), shows evidence of open cast iron ore mining dating from the Roman period, and possibly earlier.

It is now a tourist attraction. Over a mile of pathways were laid down in the early 19th century to provide access to the woods, and provide picturesque walks. The area contains strange rock formations, secret caves and ancient trees, with a confusing maze of paths. Puzzlewood is said to be one of J. R. R. Tolkien's inspirations for Middle-earth in The Lord of the Rings.

In 2014 film crews were spotted at puzzle wood - sparking rumours that it was being used as one of the locations for Star Wars Episode VII.

This peaceful scene was violently disturbed by a photographer applying his extensive expertise in German swearwords – part of this fishing technique appears to be continuous slow movement, spoiling most of my exposures. In the end, we both have been happy – the guy is kind of sharp in this image and he brought home a big wet fish.

A few weeks ago, I have obtained a fine art printer, an Epson 3880, and heard some doubts from a number of people because you can order excellent prints at low prices online. Since then, I have spent much time, paper and ink learning color management, comparing and selecting papers (finally settling on Hahnemühle Fine Art Baryta which provides amazing surface, depth and haptics), identifying a process which renders the prints as I like them and figuring out how to nicely mount them borderless (went for Kapafix which is easy to handle). While I am still learning, I can say already now that seeing your own print on beautiful paper, in large format and with outstanding quality coming out of your own printer is extremely satisfying – this printer is certainly one of my better photographic investments, enabling me to own and control the entire process from capture to processing to the final print! :-)

What a great place and only 10 mins from where I live, it's hard to believe places like this exist so close to home.

Over the years, I must have taken 1,000s of images of rocks and other objects in breaking waves, and I am still finding exploring the dynamics of these scenes fascinating even though it renders my portfolio somewhat uniform.

... is not very spooky if the forest surrounds you with thousands of little white anemone blossoms. ;-) (This forest is called Gespensterwald by the locals which can be loosely translated to Spooky Forest.)

Early morning fog in the campsite near Mt. St. Helens provided a great movie scene atmosphere.

I searched for those little 5 pointed compound symbols hanging from the trees, guess I'm too old ;)
