I hold no preference among flowers, so long as they are wild, free, spontaneous ~ Edward Abbey
I’d one free day on a work trip to Dublin last May so we took a spontaneous trip to the cliffs of Moher and Galway.
No phones, no computers, just the pleasure that children enjoy playing together. Such a refreshing experience!

O sweet spontaneous

A spontaneous street portrait from Edinburgh, Scotland.
Colour graded re-edit of a shot captured during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2017. I failed in my candid portrait attempt but got such a fabulous spontaneous smile that it remains one of my favourite shots from the last few years.
Of course, this image works wonderfully in black and white. but for a colour edit I opted to crop square in order to remove a couple of distracting background colours - it felt like the better option than editing or fading those colours out. Enjoy!
Seen at the Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo, Ireland racecourse....This jockey was just hanging out near the weigh-in room when I spotted him, and he just naturally posed like we'd arranged the whole meet-up. We never said a word to each other... I guess he's used to attention, as he seemed so comfortable with it. I know nothing about horse racing, so perhaps he's famous, or just friendly and photogenic.
I shall never forget the enchantment, the heart’s ease, the spiritual relish I discovered this morning floating upon these waters. Little by little, as our small boat stood out into the lake, the first light of dawn lent color to the water, the houses and then the surrounding hills. We did not speak, but our hearts were stirred. It was as though we could see Jesus crossing this lake in Peter’s boat. Jesus was before us and we could see him; unworthy though we were, we sailed towards him and our prayer, silent though it was, was eloquent and spontaneous.

Mosaic Montage Monday: Freestyle and/or Best of 2025
As we say goodbye to 2025, please select your favorite images to reflect on this past year. What inspired you the most? What will you continue on with into the new year? What will you leave behind? What themes would you like to see for next year?
My favourites are simply taken from my album of images invited to Explore during the past year. Otherwise I would be 'dithering' among too many from which to choose.
Rarely without a camera when out and about, I like to be spontaneous in my photography. I particularly like shooting nature, especially flowers, food (in moderation), plus any subject which seems to me to be unusual. My participation in Flickr weekly-themed groups has possibly been a little too enthusiastic and I intend to moderate this in future to leave time for my own choices. But I have particularly enjoyed, and will continue with, macro challenges.
Indulgence in strangers' portraiture is rare for me now: with a background of bipolar disorder, albeit in full remission (one sufferer described the condition as 'the stalking beast') it represents too much emotional investment. I may succumb to the occasional portrait.
Although colour will always be my first love, I have dabbled in monochrome recently with some success and hope to learn and enjoy it more.
No particular suggestions for themes from me, sorry - the surprise to find a new one each Monday is good!
I hope to have answered Carrie's brief for this theme which for me has been both interesting and illuminating - if you have followed my meanderings thus far - well done and thank you!
Any comments/critique very welcome
