Located within the awe-inspiring Lochaber Geopark in the Highlands, the deep valley and towering mountains of Glen Coe were carved out centuries ago by icy glaciers and volcanic explosions. Glen Coe is regarded as the home of Scottish mountaineering and is popular with hillwalkers and climbers.

Mesa Arch provides the frame for a stunning Utah landscape. Along the mesa to the east is another arch, named Washing Woman Arch. Below the mesa is the prominent white rim of spectacular canyons carved by the Colorado River and a breathtaking view of the Island in the Sky. Rounding out the view, the snow-capped peaks of the La Sal Mountains meet the sky at the horizon.

The Arch is right on the edge of a 500-foot cliff, part of a 1,200-foot drop into Buck Canyon.

Our amazed eyes discover the spectacular ruins of the Inca city of Wiñay Wayna (2650m).

Wiñay Wayna, whose name means "always young", was only discovered in 1942 by Julio C. Tello, 31 years after Machu Picchu.

A MUST VIEWED LARGE!!

Another of my sunsets along the river Thames at Erith, it was such a fabulous and beautiful evening . Just a short time from home.

It is all a bit of a hit and miss affair when you are taking shots like this because you are not to sure how the rays are going to come out!

This is where the Rivers Spiti and Pin meet in Spiti valley,Himachal Pradesh,India. To appreciate the majestic scale of the landscape you might take a look at the village on the left bank of the River Spiti.

The Spiti valley is a high altitude desert mountain valley in the state of Himachal Pradesh in India. It is a sub-division of Lahaul & Spiti district .Kaza at a height of about 12500 feet is the capital of Spiti."Spiti" means "Middle Land" .Spiti valley lies between Ladakh,Lahaul,Kinnaur and Kullu. The Spiti River flows through this valley. It is one of the most thinly populated areas of India. However, the valley does have some picturesque villages peopled by hardy but gentle and friendly people and surrounded by fields of barley, buckwheat, peas and other vegetables. The population is mainly Buddhist and Spiti has some very old monasteries like Tabo,Dhankar and Kye.

Let us admire once again the upper Colca Valley with all these extraordinary agricultural terraces, fruit of an obstinate human work.

The morning is now well advanced, the weather is nice and warm, we were in shirtsleeves and teeshirt to enjoy this gorgeous landscape.

Despite an area being dry and somewhat barren, a spectacular sunset will always beautify public BLM lands in North America. This was shot from public land in Utah with the Great Salt Lake visible in the distance.

I was feeling homesick for Himachal today and was going through my old photographs of Spiti valley.I think this is one I have not uploaded earlier.

Off for a few days.See you all soon.

So lucky to witness this stunning sunrise with nacreous clouds at Kinnaber beach this morning.

However, these polar stratospheric clouds are also indicators of toxic chemicals that break down ozone in the upper atmosphere (information from Torc Torr Ance via Facebook).
