A dark-painted Westland Lysander in flight with its boarding ladder still attached, hinting at its role in secret WWII night missions. These aircraft carried agents and supplies into occupied Europe under the cover of darkness. The ladder detail reminds us of the daring operations and ingenuity required for these clandestine flights.

Two Herks and a Talon
Yesterday's afternoon fence check to catch the Minnesota ANG H-model with the NP2000 props. Ended up with slightly more. The departing T-38C and a Greenville SC secret squirrel L-100-30 Herk were a nice bonus.

Wolfhound Divert
Passed by us on the way back south and turned around, due to severe weather near their home base.
A dark-painted Westland Lysander in flight, built for clandestine WWII night missions. These aircraft inserted agents and delivered supplies behind enemy lines under the cover of darkness. Its high-mounted wings and fixed landing gear allowed precise low-level flying, making it an invaluable tool for covert operations.

Took a run up to Mildenhall this evening to get the Kazakhstan CASA 295. When we get there two of the local hercs were in the circuit. They weren't doing your average circuits and bumps, though, looked like they were practising special ops stuff (hardly surprising really!). On this approach, the front one landed whilst the second one was very close but was jinking around a lot and then overshot. Looked very impressive, and the golden evening light made the whole thing even more pleasant.

'Tilt-rotor' technology went through a hugely protracted gestation period, but it now seems to have established itself as a highly capable solution for many aspects of three of the US military services operations.
