The Wendover Air Force Base located on the Utah/Nevada border was a military complex in World War II (WWII) used to train personnel for the "Manhattan Project" which eventually led to the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki with atomic bombs - Fat Man and Little Boy. The B-29 which became known as the Enola Gay was housed in the above hanger. It eventually flew from this location to California to oversees and to change the course of history.

The Wendover Air Force Base is on the National Register of Historic Places primarily because of its involvement in World War II (WW II). It was a large, highly secret military complex consisting of hangers for B-17 and B-29 bomber planes. The B-29 complex housing the airplane which became know as the Enola Gay can be seen in the center of the photograph along with other buildings such as barracks for personnel. The Control Tower is to the right, out of view, in the photograph. In addition to these buildings, there was a large gunnery training complex located a few miles away.
