Giancarlo Siani (1959–1985) was a young and courageous Neapolitan journalist born in Naples, Italy. He grew up in a modest family; his parents instilled in him strong ethical values and a sense of responsibility. Siani was known for his determination, integrity, and unwavering commitment to truth and justice.
He began his journalism career writing for local newspapers and soon joined the daily "Il Mattino," where he covered sensitive topics related to organized crime. Siani focused on exposing the deep-rooted connections between the Camorra, the Neapolitan mafia, and local political authorities, revealing corruption and complicity that many preferred to keep hidden.
He was unmarried and fully devoted to his work, believing that informing the public was a civic duty. His investigations made him a target, as he threatened the interests of powerful criminal and political networks. On September 23, 1985, at just 26 years old, Giancarlo Siani was murdered by the Camorra in a planned ambush near his home in Naples. His death was a direct consequence of his fearless reporting on the collusion between organized crime and local politicians.
The murder shocked Italy and drew widespread public attention, highlighting the dangers faced by journalists who challenge criminal and political powers. Testimonies, court documents, and historical investigations confirm that Siani’s assassination was intended to silence him and to intimidate others who might reveal inconvenient truths. His legacy endures as a symbol of courage, civic responsibility, and the relentless pursuit of justice.
I publish this series of figures to awaken consciences and to remind the world, especially young people, that those who fought for truth, justice, and the rights of the oppressed were often silenced violently. Each person featured represents the courage to confront corruption, abuse of power, and injustice, paying the ultimate price for defending humanity.
This series is a call to remember, reflect, and inspire action: to recognize injustice, to understand the cost of standing for what is right, and to unite in resistance against oppression. Through these stories, I aim to honor their sacrifice and keep alive their message that the people must remain vigilant and courageous.
1. I am thankful that I kept watching Akram Khan (and Sylvie Guillem)’s work after I published last weeks list because Sacred Monsters is .. is .. is .. all that! :) I bet their live shows are super-fantastic!
2. I am thankful for Deva Premal’s CD Into Light. So pretty.
3. I am thankful Chantilly Patiño improved my photo for her Saying “Thank You” for the little things. The photo I had post was much too dark and her personal words of thank you always make a photo look better!
4. I am thankful that as much as I dislike those Captcha forms .. the folks that invented them are using them to help OCR to translate old books into digital. This is very exciting because I use software with OCR to read and learn .. so every time I fill out one of those frustrating things I am helping myself and others that have visual difficulties and/or are audio learners. You can learn more about that in a TEDx talk by Luis von Ahn (16:39) (one of the creators) and how he is working with a team to translate more of the web and empower people to learn new languages.
5. I am thankful that I am finding ways to find the useful in the thing I noticed last Thursday. I’m glad I noticed that it has happened before as opposed to thinking it was the first time because as unpleasant as it feels I know for certain that I am going to be okay and that things can change .. with my help! :)
6. I am thankful the lab test results for my transplant were good.
7. I am thankful for noticing things and stuff. Although noticing leads to knowing and knowing is sometimes uncomfortable it can still be useful. Speaking of noticing, have you seen Sherlock Holmes (2009 with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law)? If you are someone that notices things I definitely recommend it.
8. I am thankful for posting a sign opposite my front door at the end of a hallway that says, “Truth. Speak truth, or don’t speak.” because it has brought about very pleasant results! The one group of people it was initially created for have suddenly become very quiet and have become much more respectful of my trust in them. (Thankfully the other intended individuals have not been around.) The unexpected result is that reading the sign so often has me asking my self-talk, “is that true?” and “what is true there or how could I make it more true?” I am noticing “white lies” I tell myself and correcting them. I am also noticing total bull and dropping it faster than a dried, flaming cow pie. Interesting to find out my reasoning with some of the things that I do and say.. and just how much I had a tendency to protect my perceived vulnerabilities behind mean words or choosing ignorance.
9. I am thankful the meeting I have been fretting and dreading for weeks now will be over in less than 24 hours. I can see where good can and likely will come of it .. it just feels heavy ATM.
Thank you for you. Have a snuggly warm week filled with people and experiences that make your heart sparkle with wonder and joy! Go ahead, you know you want to. We wont tell anyone, we can just smile at each other knowingly! ;-) Take care of you and your loving ones.
When doubt-filled questions and accusations a hurled at you, speaking truth to yourself from God's Word is vital. It's vital no matter the season. The truth is that the enemy and others seek to tear you down, but, they forget Whose you are and Who you are in Christ! You tend to forget sometimes as well!
_
We all are faced with times of doubt and times where the enemy and others seem to be on the attack. During this times we need to remember that through Christ we are His and through Him we are Secure, Accepted, and Significant. WE ARE CHILDREN OF THE MOST HIGH GOD!

I recall a season when one of my kids were not seeing themselves for how God sees them and they were really down on themselves while listening to the wrong voices. In the moment, I had them stand in front of the mirror and speak truth to themselves instead of believing the lies they've been told. I wanted them to see their own reflection and remember Who they reflect as we're made in His Image.
_
They needed to remember Whose they are and we all need to remember this!

We are nobodies who know SOMEBODY! Jesus Christ!
_
You have to decide which voice you are you going to listen to. God's Voice - The One Who is for you? Or the world's voice - those who are often against you?
_
Friend, remember Whose you are and cast out any doubt or negative voices and speak His truth over yourself instead of the doubts and lies in Jesus Name!

The lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so the hearts of fools. Proverbs 15:7 ESV Don't speak unless you have something beneficial to say. #SpeakTruth
Your words are very powerful, wield them carefully.
