Why yes, I haz seen them. Let me show you it :)
these are the space invader from Ljubljana (Slovenia). So far I have taken pictures of two, but I know there are more, so mow my goal is to take pictures of them all :)
this one was found in Metelkova (a place for alternative people)
After seeing these invaders in Flickr, I started to notice them in real life..!
Here's the little red guy from t'Dam, but there is a lot more
A month later I find the Flickr Pool by accident. This one has been found before, before!

Now that the knitting is done for my bag to be embroidered, my thoughts are turning to questions of *what* to embroider. I have kind of settled on the idea of a space invader in art-decoish colours, to go with the greeny-yellow of the yarn and particularly liked the little chap at in markvan's photostream so I have appropriated him and done a few rough ideas.
A feels a little bare
B I'm not sure about the colours
C feels nice and strong, but I'm not sure how the darkish background against the brown would work in practice. A little uncertain about embroidering the circle anyway...
So I thought I'd throw these ideas out there and see if anyone has a preference or thoughts that might improve it.
Afterthought: I might go over this and try to put in some of the texture of the knitted fabric as a background. Also contemplating using satin stitch to embroider each "pixel" rather than take the spaceinvader as a whole, to keep the mosaic look of the original rather than it be a block of brown or blue.
