The Spa Footbridge opened on 19 July 1827, and crowds flocked to see a mail coach and horses gallop at full speed across it. The bridge became a fashionable promenade and provided panoramic sea and harbour views and a link from Scarborough centre to the South Cliff. This spectacular iron construction spans the valley between the Esplanade and St Nicholas Cliff and remains a popular route into Town for guests staying in the South Cliff area.

Valle de la Luna is a part of the Reserva Nacional los Flamencos and was declared a Nature Sanctuary in 1982 for its natural environment and strange lunar landscape, from which its name is derived.

The Atacama desert is also considered one of the driest places on earth, as some areas have not received a single drop of rain in hundreds of years, but last week. A prototype for a Mars rover was tested there by scientists because of the valley's dry and forbidding terrains.

This Iron Footbridge was erected to Span the Valley from St Nicholas Cliff to the Spa ..It is 75 feet above the Valley and 414 feet long ..It was opened in July 1827 ..
