When oil was discovered in Montgomery County, Texas in 1934, Conroe Mayor Harry M. Crighton sold his drugstore and went into the oil business. His success in the oil business and his civic pride influenced his desire for a grand theater. In 1934 he hired architect Blum E. Hester to build a movie palace similar to the great Majestic Theatre in Houston and the Crighton Theater opened on November 26, 1935. Air conditioning made the Crighton extremely popular during the hot Texas summers and the Crighton flourished for many years but as drive-ins and wide-screen theaters became popular, the audiences grew smaller, and the theater was closed in the mid-sixties. In 1976, Frank and Hallie Crighton Guthrie, the owners of the Crighton Theatre, began exploring the possibility of donating the theatre to the County. The Guthries' only stipulations were that the Crighton name be maintained, that the theatre be primarily used for the performing arts, and that the Little Theatre of Conroe be the resident theater group. The Montgomery County Foundation for the Performing Arts (The Crighton Theatre Foundation) was formed to accept the gift of the old Crighton on behalf of the residents of the County. On touring the site, the interested parties were shocked at the condition of the building and even wondered if it would be worthwhile to attempt the renovation. The orchestra pit was filled with stagnant water, dead pigeons, rodents, trash, and debris. The once-beautiful frescos were covered with soundproofing material, the tiled floor in the lobby was in poor condition, and much of the plaster artwork was chipped and broken. After multiple fundraisers, the entire community got behind the effort, shoveled trash, and cleaned out the filth that had accumulated over the years. The resulting restoration was referred to as "The Crown Jewel of Montgomery County" by the local press, and the Crighton reopened on January 25, 1979

The event runs from July 11th-July 19th.
On Saturday, July 11th from 12 noon until 10pm SLT there will be a big pool party with 10 diverse Djs playing to celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride and to help raise money for a great charity: The Trevor Project, the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning (LGBTQ+) young people under 25.
There will also be 14 designer booths at the event, with great designers each selling a unique exclusive just for the event, with proceeds of sales going 100% to the charity.

Halloween Hellraiser 6 at SOUNDPROOF
The event will open on Wednesday, October 27th.
This year features a shopping area with Halloween-inspired exclusives from 7 fantastic SL designers.
There will also be 3 costume contests: one from 1-3pm SLT, with public voting and then at the end of that two-hour period voting will be tallied up and a winner will get L$2000. The 2nd costume contest will take place between 3-5pm SLT, and the 3rd and final one is 5-7pm SLT. You will get three chances to win, so bring your best Halloween looks!
