On the forecourt of the city of Pyatigorsk there is a monument to S.M. Kirov. Kirov has been to Pyatigorsk many times. At this place, the first monument to Kirov was erected on December 1, 1940, by the sculptor S.D. Merkulov. He was taken to Germany during the occupation. February 1, 1959 opened a new one. The monument was designed by sculptor A.S. Kondratiev and architect A, V.Sotnikov. The monument has not been repaired since 1959 and has never been changed. Not only a monument reminds of Kirov in the city, but also its name is immortalized in the name of the sanatorium, street, station square, school and culture and recreation park of the city of Pyatigorsk. On many buildings of the city, memorial plaques are attached, indicating the presence of Kirov in them.
Of all of my newer panthers, this is by far my favorite. The two tone looks incredibly sexy on the Panther, and I know the stars are supposed to be be white and farther back (where I couldn't put them) so instead I put Brickmania's Russian stars in the middle and roof of the turret. An additional star is located on the front slope in tan, which I've never seen before.

14. oktobrī Viesītē notika Latvijas Neatkarības kara simtgadei veltīti Nacionālo bruņoto spēku dienas pasākumi, kuros piedalījās aizsardzības ministrs Artis Pabriks.

Viesītes vidusskolas laukumā iedzīvotāji varēja aplūkot Zemessardzes 3.Latgales brigādes un Jaunsardzes centra ekipējuma izstādi, vērot militāros paraugdemonstrējumus, kā arī piedalīties Nacionālo bruņoto spēku Rekrutēšanas un atlases centra rīkotajās aktivitātēs.
Latvijas armijas uzvarētā kauja 1919. gada 14. oktobrī Viesītē apturēja bermontiešu virzīšanos Augškurzemes un Latgales virzienā. Ja bermontiešiem būtu izdevies sasniegt Daugavu un to šķērsot vienīgajā pārceltuvē Krustpils apkārtnē, viņiem pavērtos ceļš uz Daugavpili, kā arī būtu radies apdraudējums Latvijas armijas aizmugurējām pozīcijām pie Rīgas.
Kaujas notikumu vietā 1935. gada 11. augustā tika atklāts pēc tēlnieka Vilhelma Treja meta veidots piemineklis, kura priekšpusē iekalts uzraksts: “Tautas dzīvība”, bet otra pusē: “Šeit 1919. gada 24. oktobrī latvju partizāni guva uzvaru”.

Pēc tikšanās ar mācību vadību, ģenerālis D.Kempbels un Nacionālo bruņoto spēku Sauszemes spēku kājnieku brigādes komandieris pulkvedis Mārtiņš Liberts Ādažu poligonā apmeklēja aizkavēšanas – virzības uz kontaktu uzdevumu, ko organizē Latvijas bruņoto spēku virsnieki kapteinis Aleksandrs Sotņikovs, kapteinis Zigmārs Krišāns un virsleitnants Ervīns Mukāns.
Latviešiem bija dots uzdevums noteiktā laikā, vietā un teritorijā veikt aizkavēšanu, kamēr Lielbritānijas karavīri veica virzību uz kontaktu. Lielbritānijas karavīriem atbalstu sniedza artilērija, savukārt Latvijas karavīrus atbalsta gaisa atbalsta kontrolieri, pieprasot tuvā gaisa atbalstu ar F-16.

Taganskaya (Russian: Тага́нская) is a station on the Koltsevaya Line of the Moscow Metro. It opened on 1 January 1950 with the first segment of the fourth stage of the system. The station is named after the Taganka Square which is a major junction of the Sadovoye Koltso.
Designed by architects K. Ryzhkov and A. Medvedev, this pylon station was built with the post-war flamboyance in mind, the overall design is based on the traditional Russian motives in decorations. The central feature of the station are 48 maiolica panels located on each face of the pylon. (works of Ye.Blinova, P. Kozhin, A. Sotnikov, A. Berzhitskaya and Z. Sokolova). These contain apart from floral elements, profile bas-reliefs of various World War II Red Army & Navy servicemen each dedicated to a group such as pilots, tank crews, sailors etc. The color gamma is balanced in such a way that the panels facing the central hall are on a blue majolica background, whilst the platform hall panels are monochromatic. Lighting comes from a set of 12 gilded chandeliers in the central hall with the same blue majolica center. The remaining decoration of the station include a cream-colored ceramic tile on the walls, powder colored marble on the lower pylons and also on the walls, and a checkerboard floor layout of black and gray granite.
The end of the central hall once had a large sculptural group Stalin and youth, however this was replaced in 1961 by a new artwork of the same authors (P. Baladin and Ye. Blinova) depicting Vladimir Lenin, Coats of arms of the Soviet Republics and images of Hero-Cities Leningrad, Stalingrad, Sevastopol and Odessa. This was also taken down in late 1966 to make way for a transfer to the newly opened Taganskaya of the Zhdanovskaya Line. Further transfer was opened in 1979 by adding a stairwell into the middle of the central hall for the new station Marksistskaya of the Kalininskaya Line.
Because the Taganka Square is located on the hill, in order to conveniently place the large vestibule, and also preserve a nearby heritage building, the escalator descent had to be broken, and an intermediate hall was added by placing a large cylinder and gradually lowering to the required depth. After a dome was added, the interior work on the new lobby began, the walls of which are faced with Altai marble Oroktoy with Syringa shade, and the pilasters from white marble. The dome contains a large ceiling fresco - Victory Fireworks by A. Shiryaeva.
On 18 November 2005 the vestibule was closed for restoration, during which old escalators (installed in 1949) were replaced. All of the decoration features were renovated, and the upgrade included new turnstiles, ticket offices and security upgrade. The station was re-opened on 20 December 2006 [Wikipedia.org]

Operation NANOOK is one of three major recurring sovereignty operations conducted annually by the Canadian Forces (CF) in Canada's Arctic.
Planned and directed by Joint Task Force North (JTFN) the whole-of-government operation highlights interoperability, command and control, and cooperation with interdepartmental and intergovernmental partners in the North.
Operation NANOOK 10 takes place in Canada's Eastern and High Arctic area from August 6 to 26 and includes two major exercises, Exercise NATSIQ, a sovereignty and presence patrolling exercise of military resources, and Exercise TALLURUTIIT a whole-of -government exercise that focuses on environmental containment and remediation resulting from a simulated fuel spill..Operation NANOOK 10, as a combined, joint and integrated operation engages personnel and resources (ships and aircraft) from: the Canadian Navy, the Canadian Army, Canada's Air Force and CF Special Forces; other federal government departments to include Public Safety, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Canadian Coast Guard (central and Arctic region), Transport Canada, Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, Natural Resources Canada, Environment Canada, Parks Canada, the Government of Nunavut; the municipal communities of Resolute Bay, Pond Inlet, Grise Fjord, Iqaluit and Arctic Bay; and internationally the US Navy's 2nd Fleet, the US Coast Guard and the Royal Danish Navy.

L’opération Nanook est l’une des trois principales opérations récurrentes visant à affirmer notre souveraineté menées annuellement par les Forces canadiennes (FC) dans l’Arctique. Planifiée et dirigée par la Force opérationnelle interarmées (Nord) (FOIN), cette opération pangouvernementale met l’accent sur l’interopérabilité, le commandement et le contrôle ainsi que la coopération avec des partenaires interministériels et intergouvernementaux dans le Nord.
L’opération Nanook 2010 s’est déroulée dans l’Arctique de l’Est et dans le Grand Nord entre le 6 et le 26 août. Elle comprend deux exercices principaux : l’exercice Natsiq, un exercice de patrouilles visant à assurer une présence et à affirmer notre souveraineté à l’aide de ressources militaires et l’exercice Tallurutiit, un exercice pangouvernemental axé sur le confinement et la correction d’un déversement simulé de pétrole. L’opération Nanook 2010 est une opération multinationale, interarmées et intégrée qui fait appel au personnel et aux ressources (navires et aéronefs) des FC, y compris la Marine, l’Armée de terre, la Force aérienne et les Forces spéciales. Parmi les autres participants figurent Sécurité publique Canada, la Gendarmerie royale du Canada, la Garde côtière canadienne (régions du Centre et de l’Arctique), Transports Canada, le ministère des Affaires indiennes et du Nord canadien, Ressources naturelles Canada, le ministère de l’Environnement, Parcs Canada, le gouvernement du Nunavut et les municipalités de Resolute Bay, de Pond Inlet, de Grise Fiord, d’Iqaluit et d’Arctic Bay. Viesītes vidusskolas laukumā iedzīvotāji varēja aplūkot Zemessardzes 3.Latgales brigādes un Jaunsardzes centra ekipējuma izstādi, vērot militāros paraugdemonstrējumus, kā arī piedalīties Nacionālo bruņoto spēku Rekrutēšanas un atlases centra rīkotajās aktivitātēs.
Latvijas armijas uzvarētā kauja 1919. gada 14. oktobrī Viesītē apturēja bermontiešu virzīšanos Augškurzemes un Latgales virzienā. Ja bermontiešiem būtu izdevies sasniegt Daugavu un to šķērsot vienīgajā pārceltuvē Krustpils apkārtnē, viņiem pavērtos ceļš uz Daugavpili, kā arī būtu radies apdraudējums Latvijas armijas aizmugurējām pozīcijām pie Rīgas.
Kaujas notikumu vietā 1935. gada 11. augustā tika atklāts pēc tēlnieka Vilhelma Treja meta veidots piemineklis, kura priekšpusē iekalts uzraksts: “Tautas dzīvība”, bet otra pusē: “Šeit 1919. gada 24. oktobrī latvju partizāni guva uzvaru”.
